Today we’d like to introduce you to Danita Vanhoose.
Danita, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
A friend and I were in the middle of a movie marathon and started passing a magazine and a piece of cardboard back and forth- and we both fell in love with collaging. I have branched out to other types of recycled art, but collage is still my main medium.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The hardest part of being a recycled artist is moving. I have done two major long-distance moves and have had to make some tough choices on what to leave behind.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Beehives and Bouffants – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
I specialize in paper collage. I love using vintage paper, but anything goes. I really enjoy doing small collages on vintage playing cards. I love using nature in my 3-d pieces. I made a piece for the art car museum using all repurposed items as well as flowers and shells. It is currently my favorite, and largest piece I have ever done.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I am not a planner. At all. I like to go as the wind blows, see what pops up. I would like to do more assemblages and get more detailed, but I have so much paper right now I’d like to use what I have before I move into the next thing.
