Today we’d like to introduce you to Darius Sanders.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I grew a fascination with guns at an early age. I admired action movies and the guns used. When I was an armored truck guard for Dunbar and my coworkers had these cool guns, and I wanted to start collecting myself. I started investing my time into handgun training lessons and what firearms would be best for me. After leaving the private security industry and transitioning to the Houston Police Department, my passion for training and love for guns started getting out of control. I became so passionate about it that I started to come up with ideas on how I could make money to feed my gun addiction and pay my bills. I created Sanders Tactical Performance during my time at the Houston Police Department. At the time, I had been transferred from the Central jail to the Southeast Jail, and things became more uncomfortable for me with the new switch. This was when I knew I wanted to be my own boss from here on out. I researched the courses and requirements for becoming not only a basic handgun instructor but a license to carry instructor as well. Signing up for the courses and following through with them pushed me to make a risk I wasn’t ready to make, but I don’t regret it. I also didn’t want to work for anyone else. Once I started growing my social media presence, my business took off for the better. Now, I train every day by appointment only and plan on expanding out of the Houston area soon. We conduct the Texas License To Carry and basic handgun training courses every day by appointment only. Thank you for giving me the opportunity for me to share my journey.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My journey started getting rough after my transfer with the Houston Police Department. After my transition into a full-time entrepreneur, I had to learn marketing, better networking, and how to improve my social skills. Some weeks were slow, and I was struggling to get clients, but after I continued to work hard and grow my network, it started to pay off.
Please tell us about Sanders Tactical Performance.
Sanders Tactical Performance is a firearms training company that caters to the new shooter all the way up to the advanced tactical shooter. We strive to improve your shooting skills where needed with whatever weapon system you decide. We instruct handgun, shotgun, and rifle courses. We specialize in basic handgun training and License To Carry courses. As a company, I am most proud of the growth and what we’ve accomplished in just one year of full-time commitment as a company. We train seven days a week, for non-shooting portions, we can come to your home or business, and we schedule most of our clients by what’s more convenient for them.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite memory from childhood was the time my grandfather took me to California on my first road trip. I was about 14, and the sights were beautiful.
