Today we’d like to introduce you to Darnell Cole.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Growing up I played basketball daily. After school, on the weekends, YMCA, AAU summer league team, you name it I played it. My grandmother was really big on keeping me active and she saw early on I liked to play basketball. My uncle Arthur was the person that put the ball in my hands, and from there on my passion grew. I always knew I wanted to be around the game for my lifetime, so like any other kid from around the way, I had hoop dreams of making it into the NBA. One of my favorite movies of all time is He Got Game starring Ray Allen and Denzel Washington. In the movie, it is shown Denzel Washington training his son putting in late night hours to become better. Watching that made me feel some type of way gave me a good feeling that I will never forget. Always told myself when I had a son I would put him through those same lessons Denzel was teaching his son Jesus Shuttlesworth in the movie. Since I haven’t had the chance of having a son as this present time, that passion for helping every kid whoever came across a basketball has yet to fade. Which leads to the brand I have started called Dribble University.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
As I have been working the road has not always been smooth. I’ve had a friendship for over a decade ruined, missed out on opportunities, have had lazy moments, and also struggling to find my way. But everything is a process and I’m aware that success does not come easy. The bumps and bruces I received along the way will only make me stronger and better prepare me for any obstacles I have ahead.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Dribble University – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Dribble University is a service based business that provides young athletes with the tools to reach their full potential. Specializing in basketball training through different reaction drills, ball handling, game time situations, and being able to read the game from an athlete players perspective. I am proud of being able to help my kids become more confident when playing against their peers and eagerly seeking information to become better. What sets Dribble University apart from the rest is I do it for the love of the game. This would be something I would do for free if afforded the opportunity, and money is not the first let alone the only motive. It is to help the youth become better citizens, and teaching life long lessons of work ethic which they can pass along to another.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
In the future, I would hope to make the University part of the business name actually have more merit. Not only helping kids with athletics, but also being able to help them become financially literate, and give them intellectual tools that they may not get in the classroom at school. Helping the youth through different mentoring programs which will not only help athletes but any child or parent who has a vision for their child to be an outstanding citizen, I want to be a beacon of help.
