Today we’d like to introduce you to Darren Jones.

Hi Darren, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I started my journey in the beauty and barber industry with a passion for people, creativity, and growth. Over the years, that passion evolved into more than just doing hair — it became a calling to educate, mentor, and help others build confidence in their craft and in themselves.

I’ve spent years behind the chair as a licensed cosmetologist and also in the classroom as an instructor, where I had the opportunity to work with students at different stages of their journey. One thing I consistently noticed was that many students could pass state board, but still lacked confidence when it came to real-world salon and barbering environments. That realization became a major part of my mission.

That’s what led me to build Jones The Educator™ — a professional education and lifestyle brand focused on skill development, confidence, mentorship, and career growth within the beauty industry. Through workshops, classes, content creation, and mentorship, my goal is to help bridge the gap between school and real salon expectations by teaching not only the “how,” but also the “why” behind the work.

My journey hasn’t been perfect or linear. Like many entrepreneurs and creatives, I’ve experienced seasons of transition, rebuilding, and growth. But those moments helped sharpen my purpose and deepen my perspective. I’ve learned that consistency, faith, adaptability, and serving people well matter more than chasing quick success.

Today, I continue to focus on creating meaningful education experiences for cosmetology students, new licensed professionals, and anyone looking to grow their confidence and skill set. I’m also continuing to expand my platform through digital content, workshops, and mentorship opportunities while balancing family, personal growth, and long-term vision.

At the core of everything I do is the belief that confidence isn’t accidental — it’s built through repetition, education, mentorship, and the willingness to keep growing.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely has not been a completely smooth road, but I’m grateful for every part of the journey because each season taught me something valuable.

Over the years, I’ve experienced both success and setbacks. I’ve made money, lost money, rebuilt, adjusted, and learned lessons that helped shape not only my business mindset, but also my character. One of the biggest lessons has been the value of humility and understanding that growth requires continual learning, self-awareness, and the ability to adapt.

Keeping God first has been a major part of my foundation throughout the journey. My faith helped me stay grounded during uncertain seasons and reminded me that purpose is bigger than temporary setbacks. Along the way, I’ve also learned the importance of developing self-awareness, being aware of how you impact others, and maintaining a sense of God-awareness in both life and business decisions.

I’m incredibly grateful for the mentors who poured into me throughout my career. Their guidance, wisdom, and correction helped me grow professionally and personally. I’m also thankful for my wife and children, who continue to inspire and support me. Having a strong support system makes a huge difference, especially when balancing entrepreneurship, education, family, and personal growth.

One of the biggest turning points came during COVID. That season pushed me to reevaluate my direction and lean more into purpose-driven work. It opened the door for me to focus more intentionally on education, mentorship, and coaching. Then in 2023, I made the decision to step fully into education and walk away from working behind the chair full-time.

That transition was both exciting and challenging because it required faith, adjustment, and trust in the bigger vision. But it also confirmed that helping students and young professionals grow in confidence and skill was where I felt most fulfilled.

Looking back, I realize the journey was never just about hair or business. It has been about growth, service, leadership, faith, and helping others believe in what’s possible for themselves.

I don’t just want students to memorize steps — I want them to understand principles, think critically, build confidence through repetition, and develop professionalism that can carry them throughout their careers.

Another thing that shapes the brand is authenticity. I openly share both the victories and the lessons that came through challenges, transitions, and personal growth. I think people connect with honesty, consistency, and purpose more than perfection.
