Thanks for sharing your story with us David. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I’ve spent 20 years selling roofing in Houston. I left the market for the past three years – spending a couple of years in west Texas and the last year in Austin. While in Austin, I met my business partner and we started talking about opening our own distribution facility in Houston. My family and I were ready to get back to the city we love, so we took a chance and came back to town. Travis Roofing Supply started shipping roofing products in February of this year.
Has it been a smooth road?
We have been very well received by the market. It has not been without its challenges though. Just getting the story in front of thousands of potential customers has been a huge challenge but we have a fantastic sales team who are spreading the word every day.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Travis Roofing Supply story. Tell us more about the business.
We are a locally and family owned roofing distribution company. We provide residential and commercial roofing products to roofing contractors and builders all over southeast Texas. My wife, Tiffany, and my son, Ethan, are very involved in the business and we, along with our entire team, are laser focused on our customers’ satisfaction. Because we are smaller, we can be more responsive and nimble to our customers’ needs. I started in this business at a similar company – small, family owned and operated – and I missed that. I know my customers did. So this move just made sense.
I also don’t want TRS to only be a great place to buy roofing materials. I want TRS to be a GREAT place to work. I have a friend that owns a business and I read repeatedly as his employees bragged on social media about how amazing it is to work for him and his wife. It’s a very different business but I contacted him and said, “I don’t know what you’re doing over there, but I want to do it at TRS.” I think we have done at least in part what he and his wife have done. We treat our employees like family and they feel that. I hope, actually I BELIEVE, that our employees love being a part of the family.
