Today we’d like to introduce you to David Herrera.
The Herrera story is one of the humble beginnings, inspired by hard work, perseverance, and family commitment. At only eighteen and without speaking a word of English, David Herrera emigrated from El Salvador to Houston where he discovered his passion for the restaurant industry. He worked tirelessly to become a captain waiter at Tony Vallone’s premier restaurant, Anthony’s. While there, his personal ambition pushed him to learn everything he could about cooking, the kitchen and providing guests with an exceptional dining experience.
David and his wife Alicia, along with their three sons Marvin, Ubaldo and Dario, saved for twenty-seven years to realize David’s dream of opening his own restaurant. That dream finally came true in 2006, when the Herrera family opened the doors of Alicia’s Mexican Grille. Named after David’s beloved wife Alicia, it quickly developed a fan following. Within a few years, they gained tremendous popularity and support which required they move into a larger Cypress location. Over the next few years, they also opened three additional Alicia’s locations in Katy, Spring, and Houston.
Dario’s Steakhouse & Seafood, named after David’s youngest son Dario, invites guests to enjoy premium selections of perfectly prepared certified Angus beef steaks, fresh, succulent seafood, and an extensive wine list, all within an upscale dining environment in the heart of Cypress Texas.
Marvino’s Italian Kitchen, named after their oldest son, Marvin, celebrates their passion for Italian food and culture. Marvino’s boasts fresh, hand-crafted Italian dishes and beautiful wines, within an authentic Italian experience (also in Cypress, Texas).
And in 2017, the Herrera family proudly opened their newest restaurant, Galiana’s Bakery & Café. Named after David’s granddaughters (Aliana and Gabriella), this restaurant delights Cypress patrons with a made-fresh, artisanal bakery and café serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
There has been a lot of hard work and learning along the way. We have continued to open new restaurant concepts which are always challenging but exciting. The communities we’re part of are a huge reason for our success – we sincerely appreciate them and all our customers. We do our best to be positive contributors to our city and communities as well – we live and work here so we want to help worthy causes and give back as much as we can.

We provide an outstanding dining experience… this is a family owned and operated a business so we take pride in everything we do. First and foremost, our focus and passion are on making and serving amazing food. We use high-quality ingredients and take great care in preparing our meals and drinks. We make much of what we serve on-site and from scratch. So while many others may buy pre-made items, like tortillas, salsas, filled pastas, desserts, etc., we make ours at our restaurants and we know guests can taste the difference in our quality.
In particular, Alicia’s is known for its delicious fajitas and legendary margaritas. Dario’s Steakhouse & Seafood delivers a fine dining experience right in the heart of Cypress. Marvino’s Italian Kitchen will satisfy your Italian craving with homemade pastas and Italian entrees served for both lunch and dinner. And finally, Galiana’s Bakery & Café is an artisanal bakery and café serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner as well as desserts and custom bakery items. At Galiana’s we make almost everything from scratch, using fresh ingredients so everything from omelets and sandwiches to desserts and pastries, taste incredible.
Almost as important in our minds is provide an excellent dining experience. Our restaurants are beautiful and unique and we are focused on delivering fantastic service from the second someone enters one of our locations.

David Herrera is an ambitious, very hard working, passionate business owner. Their entire Herrera family is involved with the Grupo Herrera Restaurants. David feels incredibly lucky to have always had the support of his family and believe it’s this love and support that has led to his success.
