Today we’d like to introduce you to David Tepera.
Hi David, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
It all started almost 8-years ago when I decided to resign from orthopedics. My wife Tina, and son Dylan were competing in the bodybuilding. Well, Tina and I earned our Pro cards in two different categories, and Dylan was an undefeated Teen champion.
Just know, at that time, I earned my Pro cards at the age of 55, and Tina earned hers at the age of 48. So, as a couple, we were the oldest Professional physique champions in the state of Texas, so we were told.
Fast forward, we were trying to figure out a business opportunity of some sort, but we couldn’t go anywhere without someone walking up and asking “how old are you, and could you give me exercise tips?”.
Well, this led to us opening a fitness center that caters to the older population to help them with a quality of life.
You see, it’s old school weight lifting, but performed with a range of motion and hand grip that protects the gym. We’ve created a system called “recovery in motion”, that works for all clients, no matter age or medical condition.
We have over 90 clients, with most into their 70’s, plus many in their 80’s. We take pride that we’ve given them life back,
there is so much more, we have a great story, and would like to teach other gyms and facilities how to capture the older population business.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
the only struggles have been covid regulations, but we overcame that with my medical background.
we’ve never paid one penny for marketing. it’s all been from word of mouth, and referrals from medical doctors.
Also, I’m a columnist for the local paper.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
As I’ve written, I was an orthopedic medical rep for 20 years, I traveled the country teaching orthos how to perform specific surgical procedures. I dissected over 500 cadavers, and was involved in around 4,000 surgeries.
Our gym Ageless Muscle has a unique training system that separates itself from all gyms that we are aware of. I can read MRI’s, X-rays, and know most ortho surgical and nonsurgical procedures.
We prepare clients for surgery, and help gain strength post surgical after PT.
Really, the game changer for all people, especially the older clients, is weight training performed properly.
Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
Hanging out with my dad, who was a high school football coach. I was the ball boy for the team
