Today we’d like to introduce you to David Wright.
David, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Immediately after College, I joined the Dale Carnegie Organization in Vancouver, Canada. In January 1987, I became a certified trainer and entered the sales and marketing side of the business. Over the past 30+ years, I have become a Territory Manager for Northern British Columbia, Sales Manager for Vancouver, Area Manager for British Columbia, Area Manager for Oregon & SW Washington.
In September 2007 I was appointed as the President of Dale Carnegie Training for Austin. My responsibility is to build the organization by creating lasting client relationships through the development of an exceptional team of Trainers and Sales Associates.
Over the past 10 years, the Dale Carnegie Austin business grew tenfold winning multiple awards for business growth and Trainer quality. In 2016 we added the Houston territory to my management responsibilities and we are excited to develop an award-winning, world-class team.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Are you kidding?
I moved from Canada to Portland, Oregon in 2000. Just in time for the “dot bomb” economy and 911 I then moved to Austin and opened the business in September 2007 just in time for global economic collapse. I added the Houston territory in 2016 and have been responding to oil and gas industry challenges, hurricanes, floods, etc.
After taking an initial hit, in all of these situations, we managed to bounce back stronger.

I am the second generation in this business. Both my mother and father were Dale Carnegie Trainers. I know that made for a different upbringing. I also have 2 sons and a daughter-in-law that work with me in addition to the 20+ other employees on our team.
My father is my mentor and my family is my inspiration. Our clients inspire me by the transformational changes they make in their lives and careers as a result of our training.
