Today we’d like to introduce you to Davieria Greenwood.
Davieria, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Greenwear Designs was born my senior year of High school as a Capstone Project. It sprouted legs during my college years at Sam Houston State University and it defined its purpose after I became a mother. We specialize in upcycling fashion into unique and wearable art but also make women’s clothing for all occasions.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The biggest challenge I faced was learning how to balance my business and my daughter when I first had her. Some days it felt like I would never have time to work on my craft and be a mother. I felt like no one understood the balancing act I faced just to have time to sew anything. Someday I had her in a cross body baby carrier, while I stood to sew or measure clients. Once she was able to walk, I was able to do a little bit more but some days are still a challenge if she wants all my attention.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Greenwear Designs – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Greenwear specializes in redesigning old clothing into something unique and fashionable. I am known for revamping items into beautiful garments you wouldn’t expect to be born from old materials. I am proud that I am a self-taught fashion designer, my mom taught me how to use the sewing machine and from there, I hit the ground running. What sets me apart is my wiliness to use something undesired in my creations and turned them into something in demand.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
My plan is to design for more plus size women, they haven’t been represented in a sexy light by to many designers in the right way. I also would like to get a look at Cardi B or Tyra Banks.
