Today we’d like to introduce you to Dawn Smith.
Dawn, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
As a young girl, I’ve always had the desire to be great. Starting in Elementary I was doing pedicures and manicures and by High School, I was doing makeup. I started doing make my senior year in high school and my clientele was so huge shortly after I started. The passion I have for makeup will never go away, but I always love to enjoy new things. Growing up I was always a plus size girl and through my transition from Elementary to Middle School, I had to learn how to love myself. I never realized that my confidence was very low, but I was determined to get it through the roof. I learned to love myself in a way nobody else could and I understood that this process was not easy. I created a platform on my social media to inspire women of all ages, sizes, and nationalities to love themselves. I posted several body positive images and motivational videos just to inspire everyone to embrace their flaws and love the skin they are in. Growing up, I always wanted to stand out and be different from everyone else. Some days I would go home and just think of a master plan because I always told myself “Dawn you’re going to be rich and famous.” I realized that my purpose in life was to motivate and inspire and I received so much feedback from so many people telling me that I’ve inspired them to do so many things.
In May 2018, I weighed my highest which was 311 and after several visits to the doctor, I knew eventually my body would start to experience health issues due to my size. I know that I can do anything as long as I had God by my side and overall just believe in myself. I started my weight loss journey in January 2019 and it was the hardest thing I have ever went through and I’m still not done yet. I have lost almost 100 pounds and will continue to push until I reach my goals. Throughout this journey, I have inspired many to take control of their bodies and put their health first. It was very hard but most things in life that you have to work hard far are so worth it. I consider myself a phenomenal woman because I have accomplished so many things in my life and can’t wait to see what the future holds for me.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Growing up, in general, was not easy. As a young girl, I would always get talked about because of my size and even people would troll under my posts on social media but I quickly realized that when you love yourself there is nothing nobody can do to take that away from you.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
I just started my company maybe a month ago, selling nutrition and workout plans. In the future I want to start my own personal training business so I can help others reach their goals also. My business is slowly growing and I’m very excited to see what the future holds. I feel as though what sets my business apart from others is my story and people seeing my progress. I get to inspire and motivate others while also motivating myself. My business stands out because I always promote self-love no matter what size you are and just want people to transform their mind, body, and spirit.
What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I was full of energy and positivity. I was always the girl that everyone wanted to be around. I believed I could do anything. I went from doing manicures and pedicures, playing Volleyball and basketball, a well-known MUA, and now a fitness guru. I always wanted to be involved so I could get my name out there and just wanted everyone to know who Dawn Smith was and if they didn’t know they were going to find out. I always motivated and supported the people around me to be great also. Since a little girl, I have always been a leader and wanted to set an example for young girls who looked up to me. I was very popular, I was homecoming queen at Ryan Middle School and Jack Yates High School. I loved the idea of being beautiful no matter what you looked like. My mother always boosted my confidence and she has created a beautiful young lady because I can do the impossible.
