Meet De’Andreia Joseph of Velvet Noir Beard Care Co

Today we’d like to introduce you to De’Andreia Joseph.

De’Andreia, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Well Velvet Noir, started when I met my business partner Roderick Foster. At the time I was making my own organic skin care products and a couple of the guys I was selling to asked if I could make them a beard wash and Rod was making oils for his beard, so we linked up about a year and a half ago.

It took us a couple of months to research which natural products we wanted to use in making our brands line. After we did the research, we sent some samples out to people to get feedback on what we could improve on whether that be smell, texture, consistency and when we were satisfied with the feedback we launched the website on September 4, 2017.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
For the most part, yes but there have been some obstacles along the way, which I’m sure other people can relate to. The biggest hurdle for us was communication. Having a business partner means having to adjust to two different styles of work so we’ve but heads sometimes on operations and how to run the company but that’s honestly the only struggle I’ve had with the brand. I can honestly say we have yet to hear anything negative about the products so really that’s all that matters at the end of the day. As long as our customers are happy and satisfied, then I am too.

Velvet Noir Beard Care Co – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Velvet Noir is an organic beard care line designed for men with a coarser texture of beard hair. There’s not too many brands out there that really cater to African American texture of beard hair so we designed a line of products made for us by us, but any man with any texture of hair can still use the products. Our line consists of 100% organic products such as a beard oil that comes in 4 distinct scents, a beard balm, and a beard wash. I would like to say we’re known for turning unruly beards into easy manageable beards, well that’s what our customers say anyway. I am most proud of how well the business is doing, within the short amount of time we’ve had multiple NFL players use our products and actually like them and also just our loyal customers. It makes me feel good to know that we came up with a brand of products that people from all different backgrounds love. It’s amazing the amount of love we get shown on social media daily. I think the one crucial thing that sets Velvet Noir apart from other brands are the ingredients we use. We did alot of research not only for our brand but with other brands to see what ingredients they used so we wouldn’t be like everyone else using the same five products in our products. I think that is truly what sets us apart because we have lots of customers convert over to just using our brand over the brand they were using before Velvet Noir came around and that says a lot to me.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
The proudest moment of my career was seeing Velvet Noir survive a year of being a small business. Some small businesses don’t make it that far and to know that we are still growing is very gratifying.
