Meet Debra Myers of Enfusia in The Woodlands

Today we’d like to introduce you to Debra Myers.

Debra, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’ve been in the beauty business since I was 18 years old (having obtained my Cosmetology license on my 18th birthday) but I developed bad allergies to many of the chemicals in beauty products and specifically personal care items. I started formulating in my kitchen first body lotions, then moving on to many other items. I gave everything away at first but then my husband forced my hand. Either you sell these products or you stop this madness. Then Enfusia was born. Enfusia is a feminine play on infusing. We infuse essential oils, clays and other amazing skin nourishing ingredients into all of our bath products.

I started out at craft shows and markets until I really figured out what I wanted to be when I grew up! Now we are considered the bath experts by most of our customers. We continue to develop skin nourishing bath products at affordable prices. It is very important to me we continue to be an affordable luxury. It doesn’t take much to formulate really expensive products but it is difficult to manufacture clean products at an affordable price. I want everyone to have the opportunity to have a small piece of heaven at home in the bath.

All of our products are manufactured by hand in The Woodlands, TX by people, not machines. Part of my responsibility as a local business owner is to create jobs. I’m so proud of the team of people that work every day to create our artisan bath products. It’s been an awesome experience to build a business. It’s been difficult but rewarding!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There are no smooth roads! I’d be lying if I said otherwise. First, not every idea is a home run. In fact, so many ideas are strikeouts. The key is to have the maturity to learn. I don’t have all the answers in fact in truth I have very few answers but what I have is the willingness to learn, failure makes all of us better. There isn’t a story I can remember where a person’s success was memorable. The stories I remember are about failures and key learnings. How boring would it be just to win all the time? While it sounds like a goal the best companies and the best leaders aren’t afraid to fail or to be wrong.

One piece of advice I got early on was to hire slow but fire fast! Making sure your team can work together and sharpen each other is critical. They need to be empowered to make decisions and to make things happen. The most crippling business plan is one where the people at the top make all the decisions. Your doomed to collapse if you don’t teach your team how to problem solve and think big.

Please tell us about Enfusia.
Enfusia makes every bath beautiful! We hand make artisan bath products sold at affordable prices mainly through the grocery channel. We are very well known for our handmade fizz and foam bath bombs. Quite simply one is dropped into a tub of warm water and the bath bomb fizzes and foams and then gently kisses your skin with moisture. My sole goal is to get you to relax…. getting in the bath forces the issue! I’m pretty proud of that!

Our quality and the fact we manufacture in small batches for freshness sets us apart for all of our competitors. We usually ship our products within 72 hours of being manufactured. Because of our physical location, our shipping time is only 2-4 days making the total supply chain short. This ensures our products are as fresh as possible when they arrive to the store. Once we receive an order that’s when the process starts. We don’t have a lot of product sitting on the shelves waiting for orders.

Our business is small batches, by hand, every time! Simple!

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
I love animals so almost all of my favorite memories have to do with my cats! I love them then and now! The first hair cut I ever did was on one of my cats. He didn’t mind it but I was only 8 years old so what can I say. His name was Cotton and he taught me about unconditional love and that I had a love of cutting hair!
