Today we’d like to introduce you to Deidra Gentry.
Deidra, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Ironically, I went to college for broadcast journalism. Healthcare was never in my original plans. My dream was to one day report in war-torn countries for CNN as an international news Anchor. I was ready to be the next Christian Amanpour! I even became fluent in German and currently learning Spanish so I could effectively communicate.
I began my career in the healthcare industry as an account executive with the nations largest home health care company. It seemed like a match-made in heaven being that I love to talk and have an extrovert personality. I had a natural passion for driving sales and exceeding goals. I quickly received two promotions within the first year at my company to senior and mentor level positions. I pivoted into my first leadership role as regional director for business development, which opened the door to my current role of Vice President of Sales and business development with Post Home Health and All Around Care. Having the opportunity to oversee my own team and help them achieve their own goals has been a very rewarding experience.
Has it been a smooth road?
Between constant changes in the healthcare industry and work-life balance, it has definitely not been a smooth road while chasing my goals. It’s challenging finding the right amount of time to give to your job without impacting home life. I have three children and a husband who runs a successful small business that requires 24/7 attention, so we are always juggling our schedules to make everything work even if that means eating dinner as a family at the office. It’s very important to me as Mother and Wife, to have a consistent schedule for my children and a presence at all of their extracurricular activities.
