Meet DeKea Rayford of D. Simone Creates in Global

Today we’d like to introduce you to DeKea Rayford.

DeKea, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My journey as a creative began in high school. I can remember creating my high school graduation invitations because I didn’t want the standard Josten’s invitation package that the rest of my classmates had but something more unique to me–not to mention how pricey they were. Discovering I had a knack for desktop publishing (now graphic designer), that later developed over time and others began to recognize my creative abilities.

Through word of mouth, my clientele grew beyond my family and friends, and it continues to do so. With growth came gaining structure in my business processes, and I am a firm believer of working smarter not harder while maintaining quality and structure. In that, my website emerged, which has evolved over time, and now that’s my central hub of showcasing my portfolio and where my clients can submit their inquiries.

Has it been a smooth road?
I haven’t had any major hiccups along the way. However, people can be difficult sometimes, lol! One of the major things for me is I find people do not like to follow business processes. I learned a lot from my older cousin, Remiah Trask (website developer) of Design Baton Rouge, about gaining structure in my workflow and about not being stuck doing work and not get paid for it–which is kind of how a lot of things came about. The other thing is trying to help people cultivate what’s in their head to executing that visually because sometimes people have NO IDEA about what they want and where to start. Its been small things but small things that can really be impactful.

D. Simone Creates provides graphic design services–ranging from birthday/bridal & baby shower invitations to providing custom wedding invitation suite packages for your big day. Services are not limited to social events, so if you are needing branding materials(logos, business cards, etc.) for your new or existing business/service/organization, feel free to contact. D. Simone looks forward to making your vision a reality.

I am most proud that I am very passionate about my work, especially wedding invitations. Wedding invitation suites are a major part of my existence and what makes my services unique is I feel that every bride should have an opportunity to have their vision executed without it breaking their pockets. My business model for wedding invitations. For me, it’s just my way to help the bride alleviate one less stressful thing from her wedding planning plate.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
In the next five years, I plan to implement some innovative techniques for my craft and possibly have a storefront.
