Meet DeNeka Dove Charles of Touch of Pizzazz Salon in Westchase

Today we’d like to introduce you to DeNeka Dove Charles.

DeNeka, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I have always done hair, makeup and nails growing up, especially with friends as we prepared to hang out at the mall or local teen spots back home in Austin, TX. It was just something I knew I liked and enjoyed making people feel pretty. I remember saying, “Whenever I become a hairstylist, I’m going to…” in random conversations with family and friends. I didn’t really think that would happen, but look at me now – a licensed cosmetologist.

Has it been a smooth road?
I went to college at Prairie View A&M University for my bachelor’s and the University of Phoenix for my Masters. I realized I was good at talking to people whenever it arises and mental health was a big deal to me since I majored in Psychology, respectively. Many people take their appearance and the moment spent in the styling chair as a chance to improve their self-esteem and image. I like to be proud I contributed to their relaxation and the process of enhancing something valuable to each individual.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Touch of Pizzazz Salon – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Touch of Pizzazz Salon is dedicated to reviving and caring for natural hair and skin care. Every client is educated and familiarized in learning what works for their hair and skin with an initial consultation. We cater to kinks, curls, wavy hair textures and locs. We use natural and organic-based hair and skincare products that aid in the healing, growth and nourishment for each person who sits in the chair. I provide braids twists, color, cuts, makeup and loc maintenance. Services are open to women, men and children. Adding a touch of pizzazz isn’t meant to change you but enhance you, “Where just a touch is enough!”

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love the diversity of the Greater Houston Area and the many experiences to be had, no matter the season. There are activities for different people and opportunities to explore music, art, sports and much more. The traffic in Houston is not my fave. I love to drive and prefer to drive when I’m with others for the most part, but traffic gives me anxiety and isn’t something most Houstonians enjoy.
