Today we’d like to introduce you to Ejodamen Shobowale.
Ejodamen, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I graduated from residency and had a new baby to take care of. I had a part-time job which afforded me the time to stay home with my new baby and toddler and still keep my skills up. Once I was done with my maternity leave, I dived in head first into work. As time went on, I felt the need to just work for myself and build something for myself.
My husband felt that need too. With his help and encouragement, we started working on a business plan and making moves to start the clinic. A few phone calls here and there, a lot of late nights there and here we are today. We are just a few months shy of being 1 year old and boy has it been an emotional roller coaster. I will not say this journey comes without its bumps and bruises, but I totally enjoy the flexibility that it affords.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It certainly has not been a smooth road as mentioned earlier. In medical school and residency, you are not taught the business side of things. So as a new business owner and practitioner, I have had to learn about running a practice, human resources, practice management, billing, and coding e.t.c. I have had some awesome mentors and colleagues who have helped me along the day as well.
Please tell us about DeNiel Foot and Ankle Center.
I am a Podiatric Physician and Surgeon. I specialize in the evaluation, diagnosis, management, and treatment of all ailments and diseases related to the foot and the ankle. I am most proud to be a young African American Female who ventured out on her own and built something for herself from the ground up.
What sets me apart is that I am extremely knowledgeable, well-trained and still able to relate to patients of all ages. I am experienced in modern-day medical technologies that help to get patients back to work safely and quickly.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Growing up in a large family with six siblings and having fun stories to tell each other after school each day.
