Today we’d like to introduce you to Derrick Diaz.
Derrick, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I began pressure washing my neighbors and family’s homes at the age of 17. My dad gave me a machine to hold on to, and I took 7 hours to clean a driveway. That machine forever changed my path on this business, as I saw a need for it around pretty much every neighborhood.
About a year and a half later, I went to university and started working at the state prison in Huntsville, where the conditions were harsh, the pay wasn’t equivalent to the work, and I was barely getting by every month. I had thought people would only call me for business during spring cleaning, but then I noticed an influx of calls happening just about every season of the year.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has not been a smooth road. The first couple of years, I charged too low and machines broke down as soon as I saw profit. With my parent’s divorce resulted in selling the Richmond home, and my regular clients being in West Houston, I had nowhere to stay except in Huntsville. (where I was attending university) To drive back and forth for a job was not worth the expenses that came included. The biggest struggle was losing clients because I couldn’t make the drive to perform the work.
I had a little pressure washing machine in the trunk of my sedan car and to set up and take down equipment was time-consuming/dangerous.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with West Houston Pressure Washing – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
WH Pressure Washing specializes in residential and commercial exterior cleaning.
I provide a 5-point roof, gutter, home, concrete & window cleaning service that removes/reduces mildew, dirt, grime, oil, rust, efflorescence & calcium stains from surfaces. For commercial properties, I clean apartment complexes, parking lots, drive-thrus, & much more.
Fast forward years later, WH Pressure Washing has given me the opportunity to quit the toxic environment of being a correctional officer for a state prison, pay for my tuition, buy an amazing work truck, & upgrade my equipment to commercial grade, and increase my clients quality & servicing times.
I have learned that most reputable pressure washing businesses have gone out of their way to help their community, especially during these times. From cleaning non-profits, shelters, and dog parks, I devote my off days to giving back to the community that was there for me when I couldn’t afford my vet bills, my groceries, and helping the non-profits that operate in the community.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
My plans for this business is a vision I can’t stop visualizing. I would like to expand this business into commercial work, such as banks, malls, restaurants.
A lot of businesses aren’t aware this type of cleaning can drastically improve their appearance, and give their property a brand new look.
I would like to begin hiring a permanent employee beginning this year. Working great hours and with benefits. This business is here to stay.
