Today we’d like to introduce you to DeShay Burton.
DeShay, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My business began with a leap of faith. I’ve always known how to braid and took clients here and there, but I never took it seriously until January 3rd of 2017 when I decided to quit my full-time job and focus on braiding full time. I was an Assistant Manager at a shoe store and was with the company four years working crazy hours with no time for my daughter and family when I decided it was time to go after my own dream. I literally only braided out of my apartment full time for six months before I decided traffic was far too heavy and knew I needed to get in a professional environment. I secured a really tiny suite in a salon in Stafford for two years and recently relocated to a much larger suite in Missouri City to fit myself, and my growing clientele. I stayed persistent and consistent with my clients and now, I service numerous clients year-round. I’ve even had to hire assistants to help me as my clientele continues to grow monthly.
Has it been a smooth road?
Smooth? No way. The hardest thing for me was that I would literally braid sun up to sun down seven days a week which was a lot of wear and tear on my body. I’m talking 9 am to midnight or later most times. I had no time for anything else. I literally JUST started giving myself 2 off days this year to focus on family, taking care of business outside of braiding, and my health. I still work five days a week 12-hour shifts and trying to find a way to cut back on hours and still service all of my clients. I have a very hectic schedule which can take a toll on me sometimes.

Allure Dior Plush LLC is a company who specializes in hair braiding services. I am most known for my Tribals and feed-ins in general, though box braids are what got me noticed. I am most proud of how I managed to grow my business in 2-3 years and service so many beautiful ladies with braids that boost their ego the minute they hop out of the chair. What sets me apart is my customer service. I am extremely thankful I worked six years in retail, it taught me how to keep my client’s happy no matter the circumstance. Now, you can’t make everyone happy, but for the most part, I do my best and my clients love me for it.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Yes, I do. The beauty industry is always growing… and with a city as large as Houston and it’s constantly growing population, I’d say it’s a great place to start your braid/hair career if you’re going to take it seriously and stay consistent.
