Today we’d like to introduce you to Karen Nelson.
Karen, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
After serving 5 years in the United States Coast Guard, I used my G.I Bill to attend Interior Design classes. While attending my classes I realized someone on a military budget like myself could not afford to hire an interior designer. This is when Design with Your Dime in Mind was born, an affordable solution to Interior Design for residential or commercial needs. I strongly believe that “designing on a dime” is obtainable.
With a ton of hard work, passion and amazing clients we are proud to say this year marks our 10 year anniversary of serving others through design!
Has it been a smooth road?
Running our small business has definitely been a challenge at times. If I had to pinpoint the largest struggle throughout the years, it would have to be marketing. As a small business you have no large marketing team or budget to help you decide how to best reach your audience. It is a lot of trial and error along the way. Hiring a social media manager has been a huge help with putting my business on the map, as well as freeing up my time to keep doing what I do best, Design!
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Design With Your Dime in Mind – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Design With Your Dime in Mind specializes in affordable design packages and solutions. We can create a new look with items you already own, start from scratch or anywhere in-between. We offer everything from design concepts, paint, flooring, finishes, and accessory selection, spatial arrangement and shopping offered in person or online.
I am most proud of our customer service. We our very passionate about what we do and love creating the spaces our client’s will love for years to come. We love working side by side with our client’s and making sure their personality and style shows through in every design we do.
I think our ability to create a new look by using items you already own sets us apart from other designers. Our packages are setup to where you can use us as much or as little as needed; which is very popular with our clients.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
Anytime I take a drive around the city, I find inspiration from all of the beautiful architecture and arts around every corner. I love all of the different types of design stores for meeting my clients’ budgets and needs. Not to mention, the variety of foods that are easily available and never disappoint while shopping for our clients!
