Today we’d like to introduce you to Destini Morrison.
Hi Destini, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Well, hello— haha, I’m not sure if I should give an introduction but I will. My name is Destini, I’m 25 years old and I’ve always loved cooking. I mean… I can vividly remember coming home from elementary school one day and creating the craziest concoction; I mixed together flour, water, sugar and grape jelly! LOL… I’m not sure what I was thinking, beside wow- let me try to create my own fancy “dish”. I growing up, I’d love to help out in the kitchen, but that was always following my mother’s recipes and things I saw her do. Once I moved out and started becoming my own person, the meals became mine as well. I would constantly watch Food Network, just learning and picking up new and useful information. I thought about going to culinary school but I’ve always been realistic with my goals, and culinary school just wasn’t in my plans. Jump to present day and wow— my creativity is really getting started! Social media allows us to unleash to much potential and engage with such a broad audience. I want to be able to give people a Dose of Dess, whether it’s big or small. I want people to feel, understand, or relate to a piece of me by enjoying something I created.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Pursuing my catering/chef career has not been a smooth road but honestly, life gets hard. Sometimes, I feel very discouraged. I put a lot of work and effort into things I do but the response is not always what I expect. I realized and accepted the fact that not everyone will like something, not everyone will need something and not everyone will support me. I began to focus on my target audience, and just enjoy cooking because the clientele will come.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Food is something we all want, and very much need. I feel like adding a Dose of Dess to that food just makes the experience so much more enjoyable. I focus on catering and content creating. I provide delicious but not overwhelming food to my clients while also sharing easy, and practical recipes to my food family online. There will always be another chef, but my flavors, experience, vibe and passion will be like no other.
Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
I am new to the Houston area and very eager to network and expand. I am interested in doing many things so the city can taste my flavors. I’d be interested in pop-ups, events, parties, etc. Whenever you need catering, I am available. I’d also be willing to teach some basic food lessons to those wanting to learn some quick dinners. I’m available on all of my social media, just search dessoverdose (DoseOfDess).
