Meet Devaki of NAYA Eyebrow Threading

Today we’d like to introduce you to Devaki.

Devaki , we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My Journey to Naya Eyebrow Threading

My name is Devaki (Naya) , and I am the proud owner of Naya Eyebrow Threading in Houston, Texas. My journey to becoming a small business owner has been full of challenges, learning, and growth — and it all started over a decade ago.

In November 2012, I came to the United States and began my new life in St. Louis, Missouri. In the beginning, my husband and I both worked as restaurant servers to support our daily expenses and bills. After about a year, I started working at a brow salon. That’s where I discovered my passion for the beauty industry and learned the skills that would one day become the foundation of my own business.

After working in the salon for a year, I wanted to explore another dream of mine — becoming a flight attendant. Since childhood, I had always been fascinated by travel and aviation. In 2016, I received an opportunity to join one of the Airlines based on St. louis ,as a flight attendant. It wasn’t an easy journey; I had to improve my English, build confidence, and develop strong communication skills. But I worked hard, faced my fears, and successfully achieved my goal.

Around that same time, my husband began his career in the IT industry and moved to Conway, Arkansas, while I continued working in St. Louis for about two years. In 2018, we decided to grow our family, and I moved to Conway to be with him, leaving my flight attendant career behind.

While staying home, my husband encouraged me to explore the IT field, so I began taking training courses in Software Testing. In 2019, I got my first job as an IT Software Tester, starting a completely new chapter of my life as an IT professional.

In August 2021, our lives changed again when we welcomed our son into the world. Two years later, in April 2023, we moved to Houston, Texas. That move inspired me to return to something I had always loved — beauty and customer service. I realized I wanted to start something of my own, something that connected me to people and allowed me to use my creative skills.

I began researching what it would take to open a beauty salon — gathering information, understanding requirements, and preparing step by step. It wasn’t easy, but with determination and support from my family, I turned my dream into reality. On March 1, 2025, I officially opened Naya Eyebrow Threading.

Running a business has its own challenges, but every challenge has made me stronger and more confident. I am deeply grateful to all my clients who have trusted my services and supported my journey. Their encouragement motivates me to continue improving and growing my dream every day.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No, it definitely hasn’t been a smooth road — but every challenge has helped me grow stronger. When I first came to the United States, I had to start from the very bottom, learning everything from scratch — language, culture, and how to build a life here. Working as a restaurant server taught me the value of hard work and patience.

When I became a flight attendant, I faced another set of challenges — improving my English, gaining confidence, and managing long hours away from home. Later, when I switched careers into IT, I had to study completely new skills while balancing family life. It wasn’t easy, but I kept learning and moving forward.

Opening Naya Eyebrow Threading was one of the biggest challenges of all. From understanding business licenses and permits to designing the space, managing finances, and building a customer base — every step required time, effort, and persistence. There were moments of doubt, but I never gave up.

Through all these ups and downs, I learned that success doesn’t come overnight. It takes hard work, consistency, and faith in yourself. Today, when I see happy clients walk out of my salon, I feel that all the struggles were worth it.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about NAYA Eyebrow Threading?
Naya Eyebrow Threading is more than just a beauty salon — it’s a place where clients can relax, feel confident, and leave with a smile. We specialize in eyebrow threading, waxing, facials, and lash services, all done with precision, care, and attention to detail. What sets Naya apart is our personal touch. I believe every client deserves individual attention and customized service. Many of my clients tell me they love coming here because they not only get great results, but they also feel genuinely cared for. I make sure every person who walks in feels valued — it’s not just about beauty, it’s about confidence and self-care.

I’m most proud that my brand represents hard work, honesty, and trust. Naya was built from the ground up with love and dedication, and I’m proud that people can feel that when they visit. My clients’ trust and positive feedback mean everything to me — they are the reason Naya continues to grow.

At Naya Eyebrow Threading, we focus on quality, cleanliness, and comfort. Whether it’s a simple brow touch-up or a full facial, our goal is to make every visit a refreshing and satisfying experience. I want readers to know that when they visit Naya, they’re not just getting a service — they’re becoming part of a community that values care, beauty, and confidence.

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
I believe every big dream comes with a risk, and taking that first step is often the hardest part. For me, moving to a new country, changing careers multiple times, and finally opening my own business were all major risks — but each one taught me something valuable.

When I decided to open Naya Eyebrow Threading, it was a big leap of faith. I was stepping away from a stable IT career into something completely different — something that depended entirely on my skills, confidence, and the support of my community. I didn’t know how it would turn out, but I trusted myself and believed that if I worked hard and stayed consistent, it would work out.

I see risk as a part of growth. Without taking chances, we stay in our comfort zones and never discover what we’re truly capable of. Every risk I’ve taken — whether it was learning a new profession, moving to a new city, or starting Naya — has helped me become stronger and more confident.

To me, risk isn’t about fear; it’s about faith — faith in your effort, your vision, and your ability to overcome challenges.
