Meet Devon Sibley of Devon Sibley Photography in League City

Today we’d like to introduce you to Devon Sibley.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Devon. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
If I’m being honest, I was a stay at home mom of a two-year-old and a newborn when I decided to take up photography. I was absolutely insane. I have a degree in electronic media journalism and have always had a passion for capturing important moments in unique ways.

It just didn’t occur to me to do that for my own children until after several sessions with various photographers left with me a sense of stress, frustration, and disappointment. I remember the night I told my husband, “I really think I could do this in a way that isn’t dreadful for my clients and enjoyable for all who are involved”. He said, go for it!

I took classes with photographers, did endless on-line courses in editing, light, framing, and practiced on my very kind and loving friends and their children. Three years later, I have a business I am enormously proud of and enjoy every moment of working with people who simply want good pictures of their family as it changes and grows.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I think anything worth having is going to have a few struggles. About two years into the business, my husband took a new job that required us to move from our home in Louisiana to League City. We had to move from my growing network of clients, clients who became friends, referrals, and knowledge of great locations to do my sessions to a brand new state where I had to restart my business. It was a struggle learning the new area and figuring out what type of photography people were interested in. I spent many days driving around looking for locations and getting to know the people in this city.

Please tell us about Devon Sibley Photography.
I am most proud of the experience I provide my clients. I know what it’s like to be the mom with two kids who suddenly forgot how to smile and insist on sticking their tongues out in every picture or pretend like they’ve become possessed because I asked them to wear a bow in their hair. I am endlessly patient and take my time with each session. We will get those shots with their tongue out and when they think we are just having fun, grab the heartwarming smile that made parents book those pictures in the first place!

If you are looking for baby origami or someone perched precariously while dressed like a unicorn, I am not your photographer. I am known for portraits of your children and family that capture what they really look like at that moment, just with some great light and maybe a touch of skin smoothing.

I specialize in maternity, newborn, children, seniors, family, and engagement portraits.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
That’s an easy one! I was obsessed with purple. For my 5th birthday, my mom created a party completely centered around my love of all that is purple. The guests wore purple, we played purple games, and I had a purple hippopotamus birthday cake. Best day ever.
