Today we’d like to introduce you to Diamond Hama.
Hi Diamond, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I officially started doing hair in 2009, unofficially in my parent’s kitchen in the 90’s. My first salon job, I was mentored by a stylist with over 30 years of experience—someone who knew every trick in the book and believed you should be able to do it all. That meant perms, nails, highlights, barbering, color, everything. So for the next decade, that’s exactly what I did: I practiced it all and built a really solid foundation.
Over time, I realized what I truly loved most was helping people feel beautiful and confident. That led me to focus on the areas where I naturally excel—blonding, dimensional color, and grey coverage. Those services allow me to combine creativity with customization, which is what I enjoy most behind the chair.
My goal is always to create wearable, personalized looks and to give each person an experience, not just a service. I’m still learning every day, and that’s what I love about this industry—it’s always evolving, and so am I.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Life is never a smooth road. It is always under construction. In my experience, the twists and turns are what make the journey worth it. Along the way, I welcomed two children, lived abroad, and moved to new cities where I had to start from scratch. My most recent move being to Houston in 2019. When we say “struggle” it sounds like such a negative thing, I can’t say that I feel that way. Every challenge has been life changing in ways that I am so grateful for. A few time I chose the harder road and learned something valuable. Every big change brought new connections, fresh perspectives, and a deeper confidence in my craft and in my life.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a hairstylist, and I specialize in blonding for fine hair, grey coverage, and adding dimension to color. I’m proud of the consistency I’ve built in my work and the amazing clients I get to see regularly. What sets me apart is that I’m genuine and true to myself. I don’t try to change who I am to fit trends or please everyone—I approach my work and my clients from a place of authenticity and love. I love taking a plain base and giving it new life, adding the right light and dark so hair looks natural, vibrant, and what is right for them.
What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
I’ve learned the importance of taking care of myself—my health, peace of mind, family, and time—so I can show up fully both at work and at home. I’ve also learned that happiness is a choice—not something that conveniently arrives on your doorstep like an Amazon package. Each day, we get to decide how we show up. Some days aren’t perfect, and that’s okay. We all have off moments. What matters is that we reset, try again tomorrow.
