Meet Dino Valls

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dino Valls.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
Although since I was a child I liked drawing a lot, I never thought of painting as a profession. My academic interest was Medicine, so I started my career the same year in which I started to paint in oil as a hobby. But when I graduated in Medicine and General Surgery 6 years later, I had already established enough an incipient career in the world of painting, so I decided to dedicate myself exclusively to it.

It is true that due to my academic training, my art is totally focused on the human being, especially considered from a psychological perspective of it, something that is very evident in my creative work.

This close relationship with Medicine, so clear in my work, has always attracted many physicians who love art, and precisely in this city of Houston, an eminent oncologist is one of the collectors of my work.

Please tell us about your art.
Practically all my artistic production focuses on painting, mainly oil on wood, and some drawings.

As I have previously commented, it is centered on the visual representation of the psychic dimension of the human being, always inquiring into its deepest aspects, always at the limit of rational consciousness with the irrational and collective unconscious.

I try that my paintings are for the spectator a kind of mirror of his inner shadow, of his deepest psychic structure.

As an artist, how do you define success and what quality or characteristic do you feel is essential to success as an artist?
There are three aspects to consider.

A professional success that gives you an economic independence that allows you total creative freedom.

A personal success, linked to your creative activity, enriching you deeply as a human being.

And an artistic success, that contributes technically and conceptually influential elements, and that is capable of transforming the viewer in some way, that be useful to him for his own personal development and his perspective of life.

How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
My painting is widely dispersed throughout the world, basically in private collections, although there are also some works in Museums.
At this moment there are some paintings of me in public exhibitions in Italy and Japan.

The best way to access to it, apart from the logically scarce exhibitions, is on my website.

Next year, I’ll exhibit my latest work in New York.
