Today we’d like to introduce you to DJ Kimmy K.
Hi DJ Kimmy, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Started in the music industry in 1998 in Miami. I worked for a major radio station Y-100 Miami, FL. I then learned to DJ by ear, listening live to DJs for hours every single day. I bought some DJ equipment and began to practice. I was 18, and now 44 and I have been djing live for thousands of people in Miami, Austin, and New York.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It was not a smooth road, there is many rewards as much as setbacks. It is a lot of people pleasing at each event and making every single person happy is hard work, but the music always has a way to win over everyone. Rewards have been inspiring others and lifting them up in ways you don’t even know. I have had people remember me and how I made that event make everyone feel for years and years now. Sometimes I’m told how special that it was that I came and played for their friends and family, and they will never forget that moment.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
DJ Kimmy K has DJed for 25 years and has won several DJ competitions including one that landed her as the 1st female DJ for Walt Disney World. DJing a major music festival Austin City Limits for 5 years in a row as well as many other accomplishments working with Chelsea Handler and Sheryl Crow.
What was your favorite childhood memory?
I love being outdoors with friends since the age of 5, I would be out all day till night. I have always been a lover of people and a very social person.
