Today we’d like to introduce you to Dominic Alonzo.
Dominic, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I knew early on in life that I was different, and being creative was in my blood. Growing up poor, I knew I wanted more for myself. I started school and hit the ground running. I was so hungry to be apart of the beauty and hair community, I threw myself into my craft, early in my career, I started doing any jobs that would allow me, assisting, photoshoots, fashion shows, anything to get me in the door. I even quit my day job to commit to being a hairstylist. I began managing a salon while still in beauty school, learning and growing every day. I then had the opportunity to become my own boss and run my own salon. I was a 23 year old business owner, running a successful 6 figure business with a staff, and wasn’t truly fulfilled. I then gave it all away to become a freelance celebrity hairstylist. I travel for work all over us and have even gone on an international trip doing hair. I was In awe and truly humbled to be doing what I love! The sky is the limit, and I can’t wait to see what the next stages in my career lead. From magazine publications to celebrity hairstyling to on location weddings and jobs, I love what I do! And coming up on my ten year anniversary of being a hairstylist, I’ve done some amazing things! To the next ten years! Xo.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not always been smooth. I had a hard time in school, I wasn’t always the classroom type person, and I have terrible test taking anxiety. I also struggled financially, getting my feet off the ground, but with hard work and a “I’m not gonna lose” attitude, I won’t fail!
Dmadivo – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I am a hairstylist through and through. But my specialty is a wedding and on location hairstyling, as well as photography hairstyling. I have been awarded throughout the years and have many accolades from hair. I strive on making all my clients feel and look amazing. That’s my proudest moment, making my clients feel great and creating special bonds with each and every one of them.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Oh, man! Just one! I would have to say being a business owner at the age of 23. I saved all my money and didn’t pull out a loan, and was able to provide a beautiful salon space for my staff and I. Very proud moment.
