Today we’d like to introduce you to Donny Brock.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
In 2015, unbeknownst to me, my purpose was discovered in a dimly lit computer lad in a small suburb in Houston, Texas. During my senior year of high school I fell in love with graphic design, and ever since then, I’ve been chasing a dream of becoming an art icon. Throughout my life, I’ve struggled with depression and anxiety and incomparable personal tragedies that ran me emotionally ragged. As a result, I valued comfort more than growth and allowed my ideas, goals, and dreams to remain stagnant. Through my plight, self-expression, along with prayer and perseverance, consistently helped me keep my head above water. In 2017, during hurricane Harvey, I pushed self-doubt and procrastination to the side and created my first design since I graduated high school. Support from friends and family gave me a boost of confidence not only to continue creating but to share my work with others.
Shortly afterward, my therapeutic art gained monetary momentum and I began creating art for local musicians and small business’. My designs began to gather recognition from artists like ‘The Internet’, and I decided to go to school to master the craft of design. This decision came easily but the work behind it was intimidating. This year I had the opportunity of a lifetime to become a graphic design intern for the Houston Rockets. I work over 60 hours a week while in school all in efforts to walk into the calling I found in that small computer lab back in ’15.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Along the way, I’ve struggled with anxiety and depression as well as family illness and financial hardship. So no, it hasn’t been easy but through struggle I gained a perspective of gratitude. I gained the tools of resourcefulness and faith. I understood that it wasn’t the destination but the journey. I’ve fallen in love with the journey, I’ve become friends with failure. I let go of my expectations and began building new standards.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Donny’s Tape Deck – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
In the future, I intend to grow my business, continue to push creative boundaries. Complete a bachelor degree from the University of Houston in Graphic Design program and graduate with honors. Donny’s story is so inspiring. Reminds me of people I work with who are pursuing their dreams, but must overcome obstacles along the way. Continue with these stories. I’m encouraged and will share.
