Meet Doug Corrigan of The Woodlands Nightscaping

Today we’d like to introduce you to Doug Corrigan.

Doug, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
We unwittingly started in the “Green Industry” as a youngster mowing yard in the 70’s for extra money to buy hot wheels and such. Mowing yards after school sometimes to have free weekends for little league football, the zoo etc. thus began the education in the “green industry” and landscape/Soil management and Landscape Lighting Design was seeded. In college, to make extra money, mowing was taken up again which led to minor landscaping and other odd jobs including landscape lighting. The products in the late 80’s were mostly home-made, so when we say we know lighting, we really do. After college the outdoors was calling again and I obtained an irrigation license from the state of Texas in 1996.

Officially starting the business with the intention of only doing irrigation, the right way. But very quickly landscape design, build, maintain started.  [It started because as a sub for larger established landscape companies and having my name attached to the job by default as the licensed irrigator on site, it became evident quickly that they were taking shortcuts – WE DO NOT.]  While irrigation is a bit of an art form because it has to be done right or the problems get compounded and very few actually know &/or do it right, designing to each unique landscape & micro-climates takes horticultural and soil knowledge.

Seeing that large landscape jobs were only halfway done w/o lighting I jumped in all the way. With the core values, quality/hard work, utilization of the finest American made products and providing exceptional customer service. We approach each project with original thought as no two are alike.  We pride ourselves in taking the greatest care with every detail, from design through installation to adjustments. Precision placement of lighting can ensure the difference between a brilliant painted on effect from an ordinary installation. We strive for excellence with every component of the outdoor lighting process. Our willingness to learn and push our product suppliers to better the products have set our landscape lighting designs leaps above all others.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Smooth ride – No! Starting up is so hard that had I known, I may have taken another career path. Getting business and earning trust takes time. Remember, shortcuts never ever work. Once you get busy, you have to maintain it. That in itself is a whole other aspect of growing and staying afloat. Staying grounded with honesty and perseverance coupled with quality and knowledge keeps us tops in the industry.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about The Woodlands Nightscaping – what should we know?
