Today we’d like to introduce you to Doug Rucker.
Doug, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started working part-time in High School for a pressure washing company in Florida. I fell in love with being able to take something very dirty and make it look new again. I quickly realized that using high pressure was not what made a surface look new again. Using a combination of safe low pressure, higher water volume, and safe cleaning solutions was the method that achieved the desired results.
From a young age, working in my grandmother’s small grocery store in Pensacola Fl, I realized I always wanted to be an entrepreneur. After a few jobs in the corporate world, in 1995 I decided to start my own pressure washing business located in Clearwater, Florida. Our family moved to the Kingwood, TX area in 2002 and after driving around looking for housing for 3 days, I knew this area was perfect for starting a pressure washing business. Since that day, we have been servicing the Houston Tx area safely cleaning homes and businesses.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The ever-changing marketing and advertising options, and keeping up with that has been one of the biggest struggles. In the old days, a simple ad in the newspaper, yellow pages, or a postcard mail out was about all the advertising one needed to do. Fast forward to today, and the internet, social marketing, websites, etc is always a challenge to stay on top of the next big thing to reach our customers. Thankfully we have been in business for over 20 years and can rely on previous customers and referrals, while trying to keep up with the changing pace of the digital world.
Please tell us about Clean And Green Solutions.
We are an exterior cleaning company, most would know as a pressure washing company. We specialize in SAFELY clean residential and commercial structures and concrete surfaces. The biggest thing we are known for is our customer service and quality of work. We believe in making the process of working with us as easy as we possibly can…. on the customer. I am most proud that we have been able to sustain our business, in an industry that can sometimes be known for the “lowest price”. We have always believed in charging a fair price for the scope of work, and providing excellent value to our customers. I’ve often said that if your searching for the lowest price, then we aren’t the company for you. However, if you’re looking for a company that takes pride in their work, provides unequaled value, above average quality of work, AND protects your property from damage, then you’ve found the right company in us.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
Sought education from a school or organization that specializes in the exterior cleaning industry. When I started, all I had was me. Trial and error was how we learned. Through our mistakes. This is one of the reasons I started a trade school for those wanting to start a pressure washing business. The school is located right here in Houston Tx, and every month we have a school averages 4-8 people. We teach prospective business owners cleaning techniques as well as business structure. I am very proud that over the last 5 years we have helped well over 100 students start and operate business. While the majority of those that attend fly in or drive from outside the Houston area to attend, I have also trained many local Houston area companies as well.
