Dr. Schneider, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Revive Rx is a cash only pharmacy. Meaning there is no insurance or third party payors. I’ve been in pharmacy for a total of 14 years and having seen the rise in insurance premiums, and copays I knew there was a demand for a cash pay pharmacy.
When we created Revive Rx, we thought where can we make the most impact, and the fastest?
We started doing some research in men’s health products, and prostate health, and found we could make a significant impact in the treatment of BPH, Post Prostatectomy Rehabilitation, and Erectile Dysfunction. We started marketing ourselves to Urologists, and Family Practice. We then discovered a need in Family Practice for a treatment of foot and nail fungus. We then developed a product for Family Practice and Podiatry that treats onychomycosis.
From our contacts in Urology we discovered a need in Gynecology, and women’s health, and from our contacts in Gynecology we discovered a need in Fertility, and Reproductive Endocrinology. We partnered with a local 503b Outsourcing / Manufacturing Facility and were able to cut costs, improve affordability, and increase quality.
Has it been a smooth road?
Opening a new business is never as smooth as you picture it in your head. The old saying, “Everything that could go wrong, will go wrong.” – Murphy’s Law is 100% true. When you work for a large company someone else takes care of the day to day. When it’s on you all you can do is prepare and wait. The farther along you get the better prepared you are, and the better you get at managing crisis.
It wasn’t easy. It still isn’t, what I would consider, easy. The licensing for the pharmacy took a lot longer than we expected. It delayed our opening, created more expense and lengthened our runway. We’ve run into several pharmacies trying to copy our business model, and even take our name.
Luckily, we were able to resolve these issues without a legal battle. I don’t believe it will ever be easy, but it is definitely rewarding.
