Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Alex Tubio.
Dr. Tubio, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My journey started in 2011, right after I finished college. At the time, I had just graduated college and was directionless. I wasn’t sure if I wanted to go to physical therapy school or go to medical school, but deep down I knew that neither of those was something I truly wanted pursue in life. But what I did know was that I wanted in to be taking care of people and helping them get better in some sort of way, shape or form. During that time, I was also dealing with issues of my own. At the age of 22, I was suffering from extreme lower back pain. The pain was sharp, it was stabbing, burning and I had tinging all the way down my legs. But worst of all, it was severely impacting my normal way of life. I couldn’t stand for more than 10 minutes, I couldn’t sit in a car for more than 5 minutes, I couldn’t work out and I couldn’t even get a good night sleep.
I distinctly remember a time where the condition absolutely shook me to the core and scared me. I had just finished working out and I was ascending the stairs making my way to the locker room. All of a sudden, I felt my back starting to cramp up, my legs start to go numb and before I knew it I was on all fours and couldn’t get up. It felt as if someone had pushed me down to the ground and wasn’t letting me get up. I must have stayed in that position for at least 30 minutes until I was able to crawl to the rail and pull myself up. This incident then started to become a normal as it started to happen almost every week until it started to occur 3x a week. In short, my life sucked.
I tried everything to get rid of my pain. I went to doctors, physical therapists, got massages, did acupuncture, tried stretches, did exercises but all to no avail. I spent thousands and thousands of dollars to try and fix my pain. For me, these types of treatments only had a minimal impact on helping my condition. It wasn’t until I was introduced to a chiropractor that my pain started to finally decrease, eventually alleviating for good and my life started to finally return to normal.
What’s funny is that I was always hesitant about chiropractors. I honestly didn’t think they could help and just wrote them off. Obviously, I was shocked, but what was even better was that I knew now what my calling was. Looking back ten years later, I couldn’t imagine what type of life I would be living if I hadn’t seen that chiropractor. I went to the chiropractor as my last resort and I welcome those who see me as the same. What I learned through all of that was that everyone has something to offer. In health, your title, your degree, your education should always come second to helping the patient.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t been a smooth ride. To get to where I am now took a lot faith and a lot of courage. Not only from myself but also from my wife. We both had no idea what we were getting into coming to Houston. We never even visited Houston before we moved here. My wife even thought that Houston was filled with Even when we got here, we struggled financially and socially. We didn’t know anyone here, I wasn’t making very much at the time, so we basically had to start from the ground up.
Fort Bend Corrective Health Center – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
We specialize in Corrective Chiropractic care. More than anything, we want to affect the structure of someone’s spine and body and not just try to “pop a bone” or a joint.
What we are most proud of is changing people’s lives without the use of drugs or surgery. I think a lot of people are tired of being fed medication after medication and being suggested countless surgeries which may or may not work. I was one of them. The main goal in our clinic is to heal the body from the inside out. To allow their body to function at the most optimal potential.
I think the most rewarding feeling is seeing someone’s life completely change when they felt that all hope was lost. It is an unexplainable feeling to have someone’s life change completely become of what you were able to do with them. That’s what it’s all about. I think sometimes practitioners become so engrossed in which profession is the best, which title is the most prestigious and who’s the smartest. But what they forget about is the patient themselves.
Whats sets us apart from others and from other chiropractic clinics is that our main objective is to affect the spine structurally. We follow the principle of working toward proper alignment of the spine by regaining the natural curves and straightness that your body was born with and strengthening the muscles around it.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
To be completely honest, I don’t have one proudest moment. Not one specially at least. The proudest moments of my career come when I see a patient regain their life back and see them do things that they weren’t able to do before I met them. The proudest moments come when I see patients regain their sense of normalcy back and don’t have to alter their daily life anymore because of the pain or their condition. My proudest moments come when I see someone’s eyes regain the hope and the faith that everything will be okay again. I don’t know if I’ll ever have one single proudest or greatest moment. I’m truly in it to see people get better and as long as that happens, I will always be fulfilled.
