Meet Dr. Alexis Maston-Mcclinton of DrAlexislive in Austin

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Alexis Maston-Mcclinton.

Dr. Alexis, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started seriously doing ministry events after I graduated from grad school. Here, I was with a Ph.D. in education from Texas State University and could not land a job to save my life. So, I started doing what I best knew how to do and that created events. I started with only 30 people in a house and that number grew vastly, soon we had over 4000 meeting. During this time, I also started doing a monthly broadcast on social media, most recently securing over 50,000 views. I realized that my purpose was to help people find their purpose and the Ph.D. was just a part of my journey to how to do so. I’ve been told that I was animated my whole life and that I should have some kind of show, social media gave me room to build that show, and then an outlet to gather people all over the world for events,

Has it been a smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road. I was in and out of foster care as a child, dealt with the trauma of abuse, separation from family, losing money and friends, gaining new friends and losing them as well. Success leaves clues most people who are successful have endured trauma and tragedy in connection with it and honestly, that is how God gets us to the place called there. It sharpens us, trauma and tragedy sharpened me, in 2014 my mother was found in her home dead, she had been there for a month, I was to do an event a few weeks after this situation. I handled it and moved forward, but it was traumatic my mother and I had not spoken in a year due to an argument. I don’t wallow in pity but used what happened to me to help other women all over the world to find their purpose in the midst of trauma.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the DrAlexislive story. Tell us more about the business.
I am a promoter, everything that I do is connecting to promoting and connecting others who otherwise would never be connected. My vehicle for doing this is my voice, my drive and my company K Nation Group. K Nation is a non-profit events company (we also run create events solutions for the for-profit side) we host events ranging from arts and entertainment to business and startups and workforce. I am most proud of my company hosting events with less than 30 people in 2013 and then blooming to events with over a few thousand. We use a strategy of highlighting social media figures alongside seasoned voices and combining the two. This and much prayer has made our non-profit and LLC successful in the events arena.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I see myself hosting large faith-based concerts, having my own events center and launching webisodes.

I try not to go with the trend, one of my favorite quotes is don’t be trendy, be timeless. I made that quote up. I feel that so many times we follow what’s trending but forget about what’s been trending in our hearts for years. I hope to make a difference on my platform with helping others to know their worth and not to chase after anything but let that thing chase after you. You just continue to walk in purpose and everything else will be added.
