Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Ayana Cartwright, DDS.
Dr. Cartwright is originally from Michigan. Growing up Dr. Cartwright knew she always wanted to be a doctor to help others. It was later in her college career where she became passionate about dentistry. She earned her undergraduate degree from the Xavier University of Louisiana in 2006. As she entered her last year at Xavier, hurricane Katrina devastated the city of New Orleans. Many lives were affected by this historical event and that included Dr. Cartwright. Through her determination and hard work; Dr. Cartwright stayed focused on completing her undergraduate degree and getting into dental school. After college, Dr. Cartwright went onto Howard University College of Dentistry to complete her doctorate degree in dentistry. After dental school, Dr. Cartwright pursued more dental training by completing a General Practice Residency at the VA Hospital in Detroit, MI. She moved to Houston, TX in 2012 after finishing her residency. She knew early on in her career that she wanted to start her own practice, offer a great dental experience, and provide excellent care for her patients. Most importantly, Dr. Cartwright wanted to be able to change a person’s life and inspire them, especially the youth. Last but not least, as a single mother of an awesome 3-year-old son. She wants to show him that he can be a business owner one day. Dr. Cartwright opened Katy Dental Loft in February 2018. She believes with confidence, determination, hard work, and most importantly faith your dreams can become a reality.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has not been an easy road to get to this point but, I know it’s well worth it. As a woman, we wear many hats and can be stretched to capacity at times. I would say some struggles are keeping a balance with the business, family, and taking care of yourself. Also, it’s a struggle to run a start-up business/dental practice because no one gives you the manual on how to do this.
Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I’m a general dentist and I’ve been practicing for about nine years now. General dentistry allows me to perform a variety of dental procedures. I love that I don’t have to adhere to specific dental procedures. I can offer my patients multiple procedures from fillings, periodontal cleanings, extractions, crowns, teeth whitening, etc.
Katy Dental Loft is a dental office where a patient will get the care that they need and great customer service. I believe what sets me apart is that I really take the time to educate my patients on their oral health. I want them to really understand why they need treatment and the consequences of not getting the treatment done. I want patients to take an active role in getting themselves in excellent standing with their oral health. Also, patients should understand that oral health affects overall health.
Katy Dental Loft provides a laid back, calm, but fun environment for adults and kids. Patients have the ease of filling out their paperwork before they come into the office. We are a paperless office. I offer a coffee bar, tech lounge with free Wi-fi for guests. Patients can take a whirl on our 60-game arcade as well. We are in network with most PPO insurances, select HMO plans and discount plans. We offer Care Credit and Lending Club financing as well. Lastly, we offer a late day for after work appointments and Saturday appointments.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
If I had to start over, I would do a few things differently.
