Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Elyssa.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’m originally from La Porte, and I’ve known I wanted to be a doctor for as long as I can remember. My family still laughs about how at three years old I was calling myself “Dr. EG,” (Elyssa Gabrielle) and my favorite word was “patella” instead of just saying knee. That passion really never changed-it just grew with me.
I went on to attend Abilene Christian University for my undergraduate studies, where I built a strong foundation in science and developed a deeper understanding of caring for people as a whole. From there, I earned my Doctor of Chiropractic degree at Texas Chiropractic College, where I refined my clinical skills and found my calling in helping patients heal and improve their quality of life.
Throughout my journey, my family has been my biggest support system. They’ve always believed in me and pushed me to keep going, even when things felt overwhelming. And my husband, Andrew, played a huge role in encouraging me to take a leap of faith and open my own clinic.
That’s what ultimately brought me back home. I had the opportunity to open my own practice in La Porte- the same community that raised me. Being able to serve the people I grew up around, give back to my hometown, and build something meaningful alongside my family is truly full circle.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t been a completely smooth road. While working through my education at Abilene Christian University and later Texas Chiropractic College, I experienced some of the hardest moments of my life. I lost both of my grandfathers during that time, which was incredibly difficult while trying to stay focused on school. Toward the end of my program, my dad also suffered four strokes, and being there for my family while finishing such a demanding program was a challenge in every sense.
There were also the very real pressures of finances and student loans, which can feel overwhelming when you’re in the middle of a higher education journey. Chiropractic school required a lot of discipline but it was very doable with the right mindset and support system.
Through it all, my faith, my family, and a strong sense of perseverance and determination are what carried me through. Those experiences shaped me not only as a doctor, but as a person, and they’re a big part of why I care so deeply about the people I serve today.
We’ve been impressed with Bayshore Chiropractic and Wellness, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
At Bayshore Chiropractic and Wellness, our goal is simple. We help people feel better, move better, and live better so they can show up fully in their daily lives.
We offer a wide range of services including chiropractic adjustments, dry needling, shockwave therapy, red light therapy, cupping therapy, rehabilitation exercises, manual therapy, pediatric care, prenatal chiropractic care including the Webster Technique, kinesiology taping, vibration plate therapy, and intersegmental traction. Each service is used intentionally and tailored to the patient based on their condition, goals, and lifestyle.
What really sets us apart is the experience. We take a more personalized, one on one approach and do not rush our patients in and out. Every treatment plan is customized whether someone is dealing with pain, recovering from an injury, or wanting to stay active and maintain their health.
We are known for being approachable, thorough, and genuinely caring. Many of our patients say they feel heard here, and that matters to me. I want people to feel comfortable asking questions and trusting the process.
Brand wise, I am most proud that we have built something that reflects who we are as people. We are local, family centered, and community driven. Being able to serve La Porte and the surrounding areas, especially as someone who grew up here, means everything to me. I want the readers to know that when they walk into our clinic, they are not just another appointment. They are part of our community, and we are here to support them every step of the way.
Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
My favorite childhood memories are just the simple moments spent with my family and siblings growing up. We were always cooking out, hanging out, and just enjoying being together. Nothing fancy, just a lot of laughter, good food, and quality time. Those moments are really what shaped me and are still some of the most meaningful to me today.
