Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Robert Peterson.
Dr. Peterson, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Hello folks! I’m Dr. Robert Peterson, MD Plastic Surgery and I am a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon who has been practicing cosmetic surgery procedures here in Houston for more than three decades now. I completed my medical school back in 1973 from the University of Texas and did my internship and residency in general surgery. 1976 onwards, my focus shifted towards plastic and reconstructive surgery, specifically procedures such as tummy tuck, liposuction, breast augmentation, and lifts.
Before this time, medicine and surgery had almost become a redundant part of my work which I just had to do to make a living. Cosmetic surgery, however, was what really pulled my interest back into the field. What really intrigued me was the fact that how important it is for your body to be in the right shape physically, for you to be at peace mentally.
Indeed, there is no ‘perfect’ body shape, per se. But always being in control of how you look helps a lot. And this is exactly what cosmetic surgery enables. Besides, I was also helping people physically regain what they had lost to illness, injuries, or even pregnancy. Procedures such as mommy makeover and breast augmentation enabled women to go back to their pre-pregnancy state and be as fit as they were before.
Other than the formal med school education, some of my notable certifications include the American Board of Plastic Surgery and American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS). Besides, I am currently the President of the Houston Society of Plastic Surgeons. With an experience of almost 40 years, and numerous mentions in magazines and listicles as the Top Plastic Surgeon in Houston, I can confidently say that my experience surpasses nearly all plastic surgeons in at least this small part of the world. The results of my procedures remain unmatched.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The process was not exactly a smooth one, but I’m glad I ended up where I am, and honestly, I wouldn’t have it any other way. I think this goes back to my med school days, or even before, perhaps to my undergrad days. The challenges never stopped. I know this will sound very cliched, but every day brought its struggle, and it was only hard work and perseverance that brought me here. But I guess that is how it is for everyone, or at least for anyone who wants to build something out of their lives.
There are a lot of ups and downs. There are days when you feel like you’ve figured everything there is to life. And then in a moment’s notice, you’ve been thrown a curveball. I had to deal with family problems, financial hardships, and whatnot. Even worse were the days when everything was going wrong and I was just sitting in a corner wondering if this was even my thing or not.
What really kept me going was the thought of looking at things in perspective, and not letting small obstacles put me down. I was always focused on the long term effects of my hard work, and hence I always kept working towards the light I saw at the end of the tunnel. Another thing probably was learning from my mistakes and not repeating then again and again.
I’d assess whatever I’d been doing wrong in my life and then work on it to improve. Everyone has their own methods of coping, and I’m sure self-growth is something everyone goes through in their own way. But if there is one thing I could advise someone, that would be not to give up no matter what and never forget why you started what you started.
We’d love to hear more about your practice.
My business has been around for a lot of years now, and we actually started very small. Currently, we are dealing with all kinds of cosmetic and reconstructive procedures including Liposuction, Breast Augmentation / Reduction, Chemical Peels and Facelift. Other services also include Implants, Fat Transfer procedures, Body Lift, and even non-surgical cosmetic procedures.
I personally am well-versed in all of the latest plastic surgery techniques, specializing in breast augmentation, breast reduction and reconstruction, tummy tucks, liposuction, facelift, and Botox injections.
We believe that the human body, although is the most delicate piece of art, yet requires some restoration and improvement with time to retain its aesthetics. Our procedures are designed to restore what time and circumstances may have altered. Our liposuction and other fat reduction surgeries help you achieve a lean body which you have been unable to achieve despite diligent exercise and dieting.
Other procedures such as breast augmentation, lifts, and reduction help control the size and appearance of the breasts to make them more manageable in size and appealing aesthetically. Mommy makeover, on the other hand, helps restore the female body to pre-pregnancy state.
In my opinion, what sets us apart from our competitors is how we combine the latest cutting edge technologies with conventional plastic surgery methods to provide the best services ever. I am really proud of our unique methods that have passed the test of time and have come successful on the other side; we have been operating in this area for decades now.
Plus, all of our staff members are incredibly talented, supportive, and cooperative. Each one of them is ever ready to go an extra mile just to ensure high-quality services and customer satisfaction. You have my guarantee that we are easily the best plastic surgery clinic in all of Houston.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
I’m not sure if I’d be able to pinpoint the exact qualities or skills that helped me become who I am today, but I think the most important ones would be hard work and perseverance. No matter what life throws at you, you just keep fighting through and never stop. Now, this is not easy at all. In fact, this will be the hardest of all. But this is the thing with success. It does not come easy. You have to put all in and have to fight for every bit of it.
Also, being a Board Certified Cosmetic Surgeon who has also completed a long list of courses and certifications on plastic surgery, this would also be something I’d highly recommend. It is essential to get as many qualifications as you can in your particular field.
If you’re interested in cosmetic and reconstructive surgeries just as I was, you could start with some primary specializations in liposuction surgery or a mommy makeover procedure. Having a broad skill-set helps but it is crucial that instead of being a jack of all trades, you master one or two which you can be the most strong at.
Lastly, I think some of it is also luck, and you can’t do much about it. But some of them out there even fight so hard with their lives that they turn their luck around. Either way, hard work always stays. So make sure you’re true to yourself and are putting in your best efforts no matter what stream of life you belong to or what phase you’re going through. There is always light at the end of the tunnel. And you can always get to it if you keep working. Slowly but steadily. A little every day.
