Today we’d like to introduce you to Ed Fu and Emily Wang.
Ed and Emily, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Tutor Doctor of Central Houston helps improve grades and relieve worries about school at all ages and subjects by providing at-home, one-to-one, customized tutoring service specifically for your child. I believe in education and I wanted to help students with their struggles and frustration on certain subjects. We want them to succeed in school, ultimately changing the trajectory of their lives for the better. This is exactly why my wife and I wanted to open Tutor Doctor of Central Houston, serving areas such as Rice Village, West University, Bellaire, River Oaks, Montrose, and other nearby areas.
I was born and raised in Houston all my life and I’m a very proud Houstonian. My education background consists of Alief Hastings High school, the University of Texas at Austin, and Rice University for my highschool, bachelor’s, and master’s degrees respectively. I struggled in certain subjects during my grade school years and I know that I could’ve greatly benefited from tutoring. I could’ve relieved so much frustration and built more confidence in those subjects and college tests, specifically the SAT exam. With a passion for education and Houston, I wanted to help my community with school challenges and struggles by starting up Tutor Doctor of Central Houston.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Definitely not. Starting up and owning a business hardly ever is, especially while having a full-time job. I can only do so much to build awareness in the community of how our tutoring service can greatly benefit students. But, I’m dedicated to my customers to help develop and recommend education solutions to their challenges in order to reach academic goals and success.

Sometimes students may have difficulty when learning certain subjects in school. If they don’t get it and start falling behind in the lesson plan, this can lead to frustration, self-doubt, and ultimately unwanted grades. We can help solve and mitigate these issues that will build confidence, relieve worries, and reach those academic goals – all while in a time-efficient manner. Simply put, we
1) Schedule a free in-home consultation to help assess the situation and develop a tutoring plan
2) Find and assign the tailored-matched tutor specifically suited for your child/student
3) Begin the tutoring sessions and receive tutoring session reports
4) Care and adjust as needed
When checking in with the parent after a few sessions, the parent replied, “Everything is going great. Our daughter has had amazing grades. She comes home with marks of 100 consistently over the past few days with her mathematics.” These are the moments I’m most proud – when we help students and families find the right customized tutoring solution for their educational challenges and needs.
What were you like growing up?
I have always liked education, sports, and helping out others. I believe that’s why I gravitated towards Tutor Doctor when I was deciding to open up a business and always rooting for our local Houston sports teams.
