Meet Ed Gonzalez of Urbaneve in Pearland

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ed Gonzalez.

Ed, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Well, I originally wanted to go to Sam Houston to pursue theatre however, I quickly realized that it was going to be too expensive for an 18-year-old straight out of high school. I didn’t have any help so I had to think about what my plan B was, then I remembered how much I loved the beauty industry, how my best friend and I would color each other’s hair, and how much I enjoyed being creative. Then after realizing how much I would love it, I pursued it, and here I am four years later.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Definitely has not been a smooth road. I trained in Lake Jackson Texas which is an hour and a half away from where I live but I loved the salon so I made some sacrifices. After I was done being an associate In their main location they decided to open one closer to Houston in Pearland where there were four new stylists, new salon to the area, I knew absolutely no one, and as a new stylist, I knew little to nothing so I had to learn fast. There was a lot of walking around from business to business handing out cards, rejection, free haircuts, blow drys, you name it. I’m grateful for the experience since it taught me how to really work for your dreams.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Urbaneve – what should we know?
As a hairstylist, I do everything that involves hair but I do specialize in color. There’s so much that goes into finding the right color for someone and no one’s color is the same. It’s almost like someone’s fingerprint. I like to figure out what color fits my clients’ lifestyle so I can determine if they need a color that whispers, talks, or shouts. I’m just super proud that all of my clients are different and inclusivity is a must for me. I have clients who are doctors, to stay at home moms, to bartenders, librarians, janitors, different ethnicities, backgrounds who want different colors and I can go from transforming someone to a blonde and the next client purple then someone to a brunette. In that same note I love to hear my clients’ stories and hearing what they have/are going through and almost being their therapist and not only changing their confidence on the outside but also on the inside. I just love it, and I’m passionate, that’s what sets me apart.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Being passionate about what you do and what you believe. Without passion, I don’t think I would be where I am today.
