Meet Edith Rosa

Today we’d like to introduce you to Edith Rosa.

Hi Edith, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Growing up in the Caribbean, my sense of style was influenced early on by the swirling mix of cultures that touched my little island: the patterns and textures of Spanish architecture and cobblestone streets, sunset colors above sandy beaches, and city lights at night that splash glitter across a restless sea. But without a doubt, my mama and my Abuela (grandmas) always have been and always will be my greatest style inspiration. My mom and both of my abuelas taught me to be authentic, to value quality and individuality. These 3 mujeres (womens) are the ones I keep in the forefront of my mind as I’m building a collection. I started back in PR when I was saving money to move to Massachusetts to go study photography. I started to make jewelry as a way to make some extra cash. Eventually, I always found myself creating something to wear, fixing a piece or creating a new design from a couple of things I already owned. I always loved silversmithing and after a bold move 8 years ago, I went to have couple of private classes and that was it. I was hooked. I love how fire can transform metal and all the processes for creating a unique piece. I keep going and also keep up with trends and getting more education.

We all face challenges, but would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I feel very fortunate to have very supportive people near me and meet new ones that have encouraged me to continue and not give up on my dreams. Some of the struggles are that I’m self-taught. That requires a lot of time, try and error and the fact that material is costly. Some of the struggles that you faced being a creative is self-doubt and impostor syndrome. I overcome it by reminding myself to have fun with the process and being very reflective on lessons learned with each creative process.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a jewelry designer. I specialize in sterling silver. We also do permanent jewelry. I would say I’m most proud of having part of my collection in one store here in San Antonio and working on getting my pieces in a second store. I feel like something that set us apart is my Latino heritage. People feel an identity with my designs and often, I hear my designs remind them of the women in their lives or elements of their life. Some of my designs are inspired by cultural backgrounds like hoops, textures or beliefs, not necessarily religious beliefs but the familiarity we feel when we see something that evokes our pass. Also, I carry some designs that are more practical and minimalist. This was born out of the necessities from the pandemic. Since we had to add other accessories like masks we had to reconsider our accessories and shifts and transform our style.

What’s next?
We are working on how to get into more stores and expand our designs in not just only jewelry but accessories as well. We are also adding Gold Filled to our designs since gold is a trend that came to stay for a while. We are very aware that completing a look and expressing your style is not just about our jewelry but other elements like handbags and hair accessories and we have been testing materials and creating designs to add to our offerings.
