Today we’d like to introduce you to Eduardo Maria D’Avino.
Hi Eduardo, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I was a professional soccer player in Italy and after some years I decided to move to the states to study and play in college in 2019. When I was playing for the first in the nation team for Division 2 soccer (Young Harris College) I started coaching Goalkeepers privately. After that, in 2022, I transferred to another school in South Florida and took a position as a Head GK coach for a club called Hollywood FC. I was taking care of the program, curriculum and coaching all the GKs there. In my time there I also started to collaborate with other institutions such as Rome City Institute and Serie A Elite where I am involved in finding young talents to bring to Italy to study and play soccer. In 2024 I also had an experience as Head of Soccer for an important summer camp in Maine (Camp Laurel) where I was in charge of 200+ kids everyday.
I moved to Houston at the end of summer 2024 to take on a position of Director of Goalkeeping for a club called Global Football Innovation (GFI). Along with the directing position, I also am coaching all the High Performance GKs of the club for MLS Next and Texas 2.
As soon as I moved here I opened my own goalkeeper academy called D’AVINO GK ACADEMY. With my academy I doo private and group sessions, as well as camps and clinics. Me and my staff are dedicated to bring quality GK training to young athletes that want to bring their goalkeeping to the next level.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Being new in Houston was the biggest challenge. There is a lot of competition around and it took some time to get my foot into the door.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
D’AVINO GK ACADEMY is a goalkeeper academy based in Houston, TX.
We offer individualized training tailored on the athlete. Every GK is different with different talents and the plan for them should and needs to change every time. Every GK is treated in an unique way to make them the best goalkeeper they can possibly be.
Again, what sets us apart from others is the quality of the coaching as well as the attention that we give to every single GK. With my experience as a pro in Italy I was coached from the best and played with the best, and now I am dedicated to give my knowledge to everyone that is motivated enough to take it. I also train my staff to be able to delivery the highest level session possible. People know that we give a different kind of attention to them starting from private session and going all the way to big camps, where I am proud to say that we have 1 GK coach every 5 /6 Gk. I believe that more than that would not benefit the learning of every single GK, so I prefer to pay more coaches, but delivery a better experience for every athlete.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I played in Serie B in Italy which is the second highest level of soccer, and I was in the academy of SS Lazio, a professional academy of Serie A, the highest level in Italy.
