Today we’d like to introduce you to Egma Cordova
Hi Egma, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I was a vet tech for almost 10 years before becoming a pet groomer. Working with animals has always been my passion and calling. My entire grooming career is based on all my experiences with people’s personal pets and my experiences with shelter pets too. I found myself working for people who didn’t stand for what I believe “every pet deserves to be cared for no matter how difficult they are. You can see the fear in their eyes and it’s our job to find what works and gain their trust.”
I often service pets whose owners have no where else to go because their pets have been fired or mistreated. I take my business very seriously and I’m big on communication with owners as to figure ways to make the grooming experience more tolerable and safe.
It’s been a long journey with days where I have felt like giving up, but my loyal clients are always there to uplift me and tell me how much they appreciate me and will go no where else. That’s what has kept me pushing forward. What started as a side hustle to make extra money for my family has become so much more! It’s what drives me to continue to push forward and help my community.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
So many struggles!! Working for people who see the pet grooming industry as a money grab and don’t care about the pets safety. I have walked out of jobs and never looked back so many times to the point that I almost walked away from the industry
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I would say that I specialize in difficult dogs and senior dogs. I have clients that will be so happy that they message me multiple times just to let me know how happy they were with the service and how stress free their pup was. I also like to keep my prices reasonable because I know that there are people on tight financial budgets and they feel like they have to choose between groceries or getting their companion groomed and comfortable.
The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
Yes, that no matter what happens the services are still needed and can be done safely.
