Meet Elena Farias of The Little Learning Place in The Oak Forest Area

Today we’d like to introduce you to Elena Farias.

Elena, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started in childcare 13 years ago in the Spring Branch area of Houston. I worked in all areas and classrooms of the school. I worked in the infant’s room and all classrooms in between up to the preschool-aged class. I took a childcare directors course and then took the Child Development Association class (CDA). This provided me with a comprehensive understanding of child development and the intricacies of running a child care center.

All my knowledge and experience led me to open The Little Learning Place. We knew we wanted to create a very friendly, safe and creative environment for the children in our care. A few ways we try to achieve this was clear communication with the parents and a very hands-on and dynamic approach to our curriculum. I feel our hard work with our children speaks through the children themselves. The parents are constantly telling us how amazed they are by how much their child/children are developing and learning in our care. I feel these are some of the reasons why we have been successful.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
In 2014 while planning the buildout of the child care center the city of Houston was very busy at their planning and permitting building so it took about 5 months just for the city to review and approve our building plans. While waiting for the city we still had to pay rent for space we were leasing. This put a delay in the opening of the center.

Please tell us about The Little Learning Place.
We are a licensed child care center. We care for infants up to preschool-aged children. We put an emphasis on child development through our comprehensive curriculum and hands-on approach.
