Meet Eli Mendez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Eli Mendez.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I am a bilingual Houston Real Estate Agent specializing in the Cypress and Katy communities.

I became a real estate agent because I enjoy the warm fuzzy feeling that comes with helping families find that perfect home. Every day in real estate is a new adventure. One day I might be helping a young couple purchase their first home; while another day, I might be helping a family sell their home and upgrade to a bigger house.

From a very young age, my parents taught me that honesty and hard work would open many doors; I never thought they meant I would be opening actual doors (wait for laughs).

I can honestly say, the success I’ve had as a real estate agent has come from being open and honest with my clients. Not only am I someone they can trust, I’m also someone that’s going to go the extra mile to ensure I surpass my client’s expectations.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
For the most part, my journey in real estate has gone really well and that’s mainly in part to my perseverance and grit. However, there have been a few bumps along the road. The biggest obstacle I’ve had to overcome thus far has been rejection. In this business, I’ve heard “no” and “I’m not interested” more times than I can keep track of.

Unfortunately, not every culture in our community understands the value of homeownership and the financial freedom that comes with it. I do my best to educate everyone I come in contact with, but I cannot force them to buy something they don’t want. All I can do is keep pushing forward and helping as many families as I can.

Tell us about your work – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Buying or selling a house is the largest financial decision most people make in their lives and many feel overwhelmed by the entire process. That’s where I come in. I help families navigate through the entire journey from start to finish.

Many people believe real estate is just looking at homes, but there’s a lot that goes on behind the scenes, from submitting an offer, coordinating inspections, to negotiating repairs, and ensuring proper financing.

Another thing many first-time homebuyers don’t know is that working with a real estate agent is completely FREE. There are a lot of agents in this industry, so working with the right person is extremely important.

What sets me apart from the competition is my work ethic. Not only am I a real estate agent, I’m also a real estate investor, engineer, and a teacher. I speak multiple languages which allow me to better communicate across various cultures.

I understand how to analyze all aspects of a good deal and have the problem-solving skills to navigate difficult contract situations. I guess you can say I’m a bit of an overachiever and will use all of my skills to your advantage.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
The proudest moment of my career was when I was able to help a long time friend buy his first home. It was a beautiful home in a nice neighborhood. The home had been on the market only a few days and had multiple offers above asking price. This story is special because we were able to get the home under contract below asking price despite all the competition. This is why having a knowledgeable real estate agent such as myself is very important when buying or selling a home.

There are many things you can negotiate in a real estate transaction, not just price. In this instance, we were able to submit a very competitive offer while still saving my friend lots of money.
