Today we’d like to introduce you to Elizabeth Peng.

Elizabeth Peng

Hi Elizabeth, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
If to use a title to describe my current story, I would use “of “from a Musician to an Entrepreneur.” Ten years ago, I came to the United States to study music therapy, and shortly thereafter, I founded a comprehensive music school in Houston called Bylinghua Music. While in China, I saw schools with various instruments, comprehensive programs, and various competitions. However, when I came to Houston, I found that the predominant approach was private lessons or individual studios, and there were no specific programs tailored for Asians who have their own unique instruments.

So, I established an institution that combines music lessons, instrument sales, and music performances into one entity. In the field of music, we achieved many accomplishments. Our students excelled in various competitions, including All-State, and had the opportunity to perform alongside renowned musicians. We also developed distinctive music programs like choirs and Chinese drums. In terms of instrument sales, we partnered with numerous brands and made significant progress.

As the music institution expanded, I gradually realized that managing a music institution is more like managing a company handling its operations. This was quite different from the music field I was familiar with, and I faced many challenges and uncertainties. That’s when I met another important person in my life, my business mentor. She provided me with valuable guidance and insights into the business world.

So now, in addition to continuing to invest in the music industry, I began to venture into other fields, embarking on a colorful and diverse journey in the business world.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I feel there have been both smooth and challenging aspects. The journey in music has been smooth, but managing the company and operations posed numerous difficulties. Many challenges were unpredictable, requiring on-the-go problem-solving. At times, I even went back to study business management to navigate issues. Fortunately, I encountered supportive friends who offered genuine advice, helping me overcome many obstacles and learn valuable lessons along the way.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I think the most things I am proud is that what I’ve accomplished is interdisciplinary, and I’ve successfully transitioned from music to business field. This is something I hope to inspire others with through my own experiences. If you want to try something different, believe in yourself and persevere in your efforts.

In addition ,I think what sets me apart from others is 【never give up 】when you have challenges. I think my music experiences largely helped me build my entrepreneur career, because when we practiced music, especially with a lot of problems, we have to repeat, repeat, and work very hard instead of giving up. It’s very similar with being an entrepreneur. With that being said , what you achieved in one field will help you in the other field , we can always learn from the experiences, so trust yourself!

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
Grit; resilient; Integrity; honesty sincerity
