Thanks for sharing your story with us Elizabeth. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I opened my business in 1999. At that time I was the second storage facility in Kemah. Over the years our type of business has become more popular and there is much more competition. This facility is one block from Clear Lake and has been home to the boating community.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I am the owner/operator at my facility. We survived hurricane Ike in 2008 and were able to help our community during this difficult time.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
My company is owner operated. I have a large outdoor parking area for boats. We are very close to the public boat ramp. Those who live aboard have close access to their belongings when they store here. Locals know my property for the deer that live here. They also know my advertising mannequin Esmerelda. I sponsor the Lite Bunch. Our biggest event is Houston Rodeo. Each spring we have Wednesday night sail races on the lake. I am most proud of the great customers I have and the local referrals I get from them.
What were you like growing up?
I grew up in Galveston, Texas. I was a majorette in the band at Ball High School. My junior year I was in the Distributive Education program and worked downtown in retail at Levy’s clothing store. My senior year I was in Health Occupations and worked at UTMB.
