Meet Ell Young of “Ellevated” in Northwest

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ell Young.

Ell, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
If I must be completely honest, I would have to say that everything for me with Music finally took over my soul in the second grade. I was obsessed with Mariah Carey’s “music box” album. And from then on, I just began to writing poems, with any words I could rhyme together. I would sing to anything that came on the radio even if I did not know the lyrics, it was just something that inspired me and spoke to me in a different way. By the time I was in fifth grade, I fell in love with jazz, orchestra and symphony music.

And despite my mother wanted me to play the clarinet I opted for the decision to play the saxophone because I was already in love with the sound and it just made sense. Once I got into high school, I joined the choir to continue any avenue of music. While all this was going on, I kept on with my poems and eventually that is what led to me writing music. My younger brother, “Ray Bandz,” who is already a music artist was the one who pushed me to pursue my music wholeheartedly, him believing in me is very genuine and it feels really good to have someone who does when you’re unsure if you should truly follow your passion. I tried to leave music as a past hobby but somehow and someway it always find it always found its way back to me…so now I’m giving it all I have, so I have no regrets.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I do not think that there is a smooth road to anything that you are passionate about and want to see succeed. My challenges as an independent artist have been trying to maintain my life balance with my now up and coming music career. In this short amount of time, I have seen some sides to this industry that aren’t always the greatest and for some, maybe off-putting. Outside of that, managing everything myself for myself at times can be a bit difficult, but I know it will be worth it because everything that I’m doing in regards to my music comes from my heart and a sound mind.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with “Ellevated” – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
I am a bilingual Spanish music artist. Naturally, I am a singer, but I am also not one to put myself in a box, so I am also fine-tuning my rap style as well. As of right now, what I am most proud of is that I am actually putting myself out there. being open to criticism and not taking it personally because I know it’s part of my growth process as an artist. I’m proud of myself for actually getting out of my house during the middle of the week to attend performances or networking events LOL because prior to me putting music I was a homebody for the most part. If I’m being honest, I believe that sets me apart is the fact that I’m not only able to sing or rap in both English and Spanish, but I feel like my music can potentially expand to fulfill any genre. In addition to that, being a bit more superficial lol, my appearance isn’t a “check off the box” female type.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
My plans for the future are to continue to pursue my music, continue writing, and hopefully, one day makes music so well known that people feel they have to listen to because it speaks to them in that way. I’m looking forward to being signed with a reputable and loyal to their artist label and maybe even headlining a tour someday! However, in the very near future, summer 2020 future, I will be graduating college with my bachelor of science degree in healthcare administration with a minor in general business. Education is very important to me and is something that I pride myself and having.
