Today we’d like to introduce you to Ellen Rozman.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
Yes, I had a major surgery in 2010, which took my life on a different trajectory. I had been a fitness addict for years- teaching, training, and participating in triathlons and marathons. This condition (my colon was tied in a knot) almost took my life. When I emerged from the hospital bed, something had shifted. I had a different outlook on life… but once I started healing and feeling better, I went right back to my old routine.
I knew deep down inside this was not right for my body, but I couldn’t stop myself from going out and pounding the pavement. My gut was still a mess. When I started to heal my gut, my mind became more clear. I began to focus on those actions that were no longer serving me.
It took years, and I went down several paths. Many were the wrong paths though I learned quite a bit along the way. I eventually ended up writing a book about my story, and it dives deep into the gut-brain connection. It’s real, raw, dark, and humorous and 100% true!
Please tell us about your art.
I wrote a book about my journey back to health. I want to inspire others to get real with themselves and to really listen to their gut. We ALWAYS have the answers, though we often look outside ourselves to find them. When we can really tap into our gut, our intuition, get 100% honest with ourselves, the truth emerges. And when we follow our truth, we heal.
My book is called Full of Shit, because that’s what I was, both literally and figuratively. I want my readers to see that whether they are addicted to exercise, have gut issues, or whatever they are dealing with, they are not alone. Being honest and vulnerable and not being afraid or shameful to admit that life is not always rainbows & unicorns will attract those people who can support you on your own path to healing.
Do you have any advice for other artists? Any lessons you wished you learned earlier?
Go with your gut!!! If I had listened to my gut and followed my intuition (and the pain I was in when I was running), I would have healed a LOT faster.
We often create our own disasters either because we feel as though our worth is tied to what we do, how we present ourselves, what we look like, or any other belief we have about how we “should” be. Get REAL with yourself. Assess your happiness quotient, your joy, your drive/passion, and listen to your gut and your bodies symptoms. It knows exactly what you need!
Do not compare yourself to others that is just setting yourself up for disaster. You are enough, just as you are! Believe in yourself-ALWAYS!
How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
They can purchase my book! I do not have any retail location in Houston (yet ;-), but it is definitely available in Austin and, of course, on Amazon!
