Meet Elma Hasimbegovic of Sweet Gingerbread House in Katy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Elma Hasimbegovic.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Elma. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My story begins at an early age of showing love for baking before I turned double-digit age. I grew up in the heart of Europe, surrounded by a great number of amazing cuisines that still hold high esteem in the world of baking.

That love will stay with me forever and my dream to bake and learn even more came true when I decided to be a stay at home mom to be with my kids. I had more time on my hands to venture into the magical world of baking, and the more difficult a new technique would be, the more fun I’d have to complete it. The harder the task, the more you’d hear me say: “Challenge accepted!”.

My biggest fan and support is my husband, but I couldn’t have done it without my friends and family!! My neighbors are the ones who gave me the idea I should pursue my dream and venture into the new chapter of my life as an entrepreneur. In the last decade, they have tried many of my goodies as I would happily share, of course. But only when Texas Cottage Law was born, did I entertain the idea of starting as I like to play by the rules only. And the vision was born.

Today, I can honestly say my whole success is thanks to the neighbors in my community as they shared my goodies on social media and by word of mouth with their friends and family. I feel blessed to live in Firethorne and to call all the amazing people here my neighbors.

Has it been a smooth road?
Since this is a one-woman show, sometimes it would be difficult to be on top of social media, updating everything on time and getting back to inquires on a daily basis. But I’m grateful to find people being patient and understanding when it comes to this.

Also, we’ve been offering our scrumptious cakes before and due to recurring back problems, we simply had to stop cakes for the time being, and just focus on cookies.

Looking forward to the Times we will get back to offering cakes again; seriously, some of the recipes we’ve used are over a hundred years old (with our modern twist to them).

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Sweet Gingerbread House story. Tell us more about the business.
Our main focus, for now, will be on cookies (due to recurring back problems we had to scale down the amount of goodies we have been offering). Our most popular item is definitely our scrumptious vanilla sugar cookies with a hint of almond extract. We decorate them with royal icing, but we also can paint on them so you have little pieces of art for your birthday party, baby shower, gender reveal, anniversary, graduation, baptism, or whatever you may be planning a party for.

We also offer chocolate sugar cookies, choco chip sugar cookies, soft-baked tarts in the shape of any number you’ve seen as the latest trend going on. But what we are most proud of is our gingerbread cookies (hence the name of our (Sweet) Gingerbread House. My eldest son thought of the name, he was 10 at the time).

What sets us apart is the fact that we also offer gluten-free And dairy-free decorated sugar cookies. This is what people are saying about our DFGF ones:
