Today we’d like to introduce you to Elon Garraway.
Elon, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My entrepreneurial journey started back in elementary school. At a young age, I started selling candy after going with my mom to Sam’s club. For me, the legal working age of 15/16 years old seemed to be a bit too distant, and the money I would make selling candy always gave me a little more change than the rest of my classmates. I would learn the basics of the art of hustle here, continuing to sell candy throughout my adolescence. However, I did not limit my hustle to selling candy. Soon I begin to sell shoes, purses and haircuts.
Has it been a smooth road?
This journey has not been a smooth road for me; in fact, it was a journey that I found myself rerouted several times. However, with every reroute, whether I found myself on the highest mountain, or, the darkest and lowest valley, I always seemed to find clippers nearby. Barbering for me did not start at 24 Hour Barber Shop. Barbering for me started in a restroom with my brave cousin, who let me experiment on his head. The only thing smooth about that first time for me cutting hair was the bald head that my cousin was left with. You see, everything was going well as I begin to cut his afro, that is until the guard on clippers got stuck in his thick hair, unbeknownst to me. I kept going with my stroke as the blade of the clippers left the guard stuck behind, soon taking more hair off than originally planned.
Tell us more about the business.
24 Hour Barber Shop is a full luxury service barbershop that is open 24 hours by way of appointment. We specialize in all types of haircuts and hairstyles and even facials. We are different from other barbershops, being that we give our clients the option for 24-hour service, seven days a week. In recent times, we are most proud as a company of officially making it to our first year and beyond in business.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
In the next 5-10 years, I see the barber industry reaching up to the standard set by us. More shops will soon be open around the clock and, for more than the typical five days a week model we see now. I also see the industry shifting to having a larger mobile presence.
