Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Hello, my name is Elyssa Martinez, I’m 27 years old. I am a mom of two boys. My hometown is San Antonio, Texas born and raised. I am currently relocating to Houston, Texas for a new start and more business opportunities. I started my small business 6 years ago in San Antonio. I’ve had two suites in my name within the time I have started my journey. I strive everyday to be the best entrepreneur I can be, as an independent boss. I absolutely love what I do! I get to turn girlies into instant baddies with a crown they never take off! I’ve always had a passion for beauty. Whether it was makeup, hair, dressing up or trying new styles. Being girly has always been my thing. I specialize in color corrections, hair extensions and balayages (the most known technique in the hair industry). I am an independent hairstylist that has always worked alone since day one. Being the top boss is always on my mind. Also by the grace of God, I push myself everyday to remain strong, positive, ambitious and to keep pushing. Now, I am pushing myself even further to start fresh in a new city. I’m so excited to see where my new journey takes me!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
So no, I’d be lying if I said it was an easy ride. It hasn’t always been a smooth road. I’ve experienced some difficult times as Covid hit, as seasons change. There is times where I have thought about giving up but instead I keep my head high and push through. Being a business owner isn’t easy but it feels amazing to get up everyday and do what I love! Turning my dreams into reality.

I offer hair color, haircuts, hairstyles, and hair extensions. I place my foils in my own techniques so my work can stand out with my own little personal touches! I am mainly known for balayages, the most requested hair service. I also specialize in color corrections, which means I am able to fix a color, cancel out unwanted tones in the hair or completely change someone’s look with extensions adding length and density to my clients hair. It makes me happy to see the reactions my clients give when they are completely done, styled and finished. What sets me apart from other hairstylists is that I go above and beyond to satisfy my clients needs and accommodate them in any way to isure their hair goal comes true. Happy clients, happy me!
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
What worked for me was social media marketing. I use tools such as Instagram, Facebook and TikTok. The biggest platforms for getting exposure towards my business. Those networks seemed to help me a lot with marketing myself into bringing in new clientele and helping me market in new locations.
