Meet Emily Garcia of Lil Emma’s Seafood in Cypress

Today we’d like to introduce you to Emily Garcia.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I grew up in a shrimping family. My grandfather started in 1952 and my father had his first boat built in 1987. My dad’s first boat was named after me the “Miss Emily” and I was almost 2 years old when it was built. My family currently has the largest family own fleet of shrimp boats in the USA and the boats are docked in Palacios, TX. I distribute our seafood to farmer’s markets throughout Houston and also to Farm-to-Table restaurants in Houston.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Not really. But we do try to educate people the importance of buying a gulf product vs. imported shrimp.

Lil Emma’s Seafood – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
We sell gulf shrimp from our families shrimp boats. We are special because we are boat to table.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I think selling a great, wholesome, chemical free product to our customers in a food industry that isn’t really focused on that makes us successful.
